Well that depends. We don’t know which truck he has. I have a 23 lariat ER which can charge up to 80amps.
WHY I harp on people to update their vehicle profiles and others to open the drop list.

To be clear, regardless of what your truck can use (48amps), the proper wiring for an 80amp charger is for a 100amp circuit, including 100amp breaker. 80% usage. Or, 125% of pull.

I suspect your #4 awg thhn is also undersized for 80amps. Not an electrician.

This 80amp charger is brand new for them. Can't find the manual or FAQs or anything on their website.
At this point, even if it’s undersized its

In 24 they dropped the dual chargers except for fleet orders so yes on level 2 48amps is the max the truck will pull.

Will do ill change it up this afternoon, material is not a issue i can it from the electricians on site at my job. Thanks everyone
Sure. Just pointing out that there is zero advantage or need to chage it, switching to 6awg and a 60a breaker is worse than what you have even if "only" charging at 40a.

Hello guys new member here, had a question about the charge point charger hardwire, i ended up doing the 80amp breaker with #4 awg thhn but its only giving me 40amps at charge. Wanted to know if anybody has installed this with 80amp breaker running into this situation? If not then ill just swap it out with 60amp breaker and 6 awg thhn. Or is there a setting on truck to change amps? Thanks
Chargepoint flex output is set during setup and maxes at 50 amps

Isn't the 20A-80A listed there the circuit rating? The EVSE still maxes at 50A
Dont even bother doing 80amp, charger connectors are rated max 6awg. With that being said better off installing the right wire incase something happens warranty void. Thats only reason why im changing the wires and breaker as we speak

You have a 2024 lightning. Ford eliminated the 80 amp charge capability with the 2024 model year. Your truck can only charge at the traditional 48 amp max.

An 80 amp charger requires 3 gauge copper wiring and a 100 amp breaker. If you installed 4 gauge wire and an 80 amp breaker, you would need to change the charger settings to max out at no more than 64 amps.

Math: 4awg 75°C max ampacity is 85 amps. (Breakers use the 75°c ampacity, NOT THE 90°c ampacity). So that's fine with your 80 amp breaker. Permanently installed devices should not exceed 80% of the capacity. 80% of 80 amps is 64 amps. So in your currently installed configuration based on what you've said, you need to configure your charger to not exceed 65 amps under any circumstances.

Why would you rewire it?

Why would you think rewiring it would change anything?

And yet again, your truck won't charge any faster than 48a.

I have a ChargePoint Home Flex Charger hardwired on a 60amp circuit and 6 awg wire.
I get 48 amps and see an average rate of 9.5-11.5kwh per charge session.
Works great....

How are you measuring or determining the amps and KW?
