Anyone else but me wondering why they would go raising prices when there is about to be another 12,000 chargers at our disposal shortly (Tesla Fast Chargers)?

Seems to me, if they plan on staying relevant, they would be making things more attractive, not less.

Technically, EA announced they’re going to variable rates. They may be adjusting them because they’re drawing Teslas away from Superchargers with current prices lower than Brand T. Right now, CCS vehicles don’t have options.

Understand, but seems shortsighted to me. They did raise the monthly, by nearly 100%.

I didn’t say they’d plug back in, I said they’d unplug. Eliminates the idle fee because as far as the station can tell, they’re gone.

Some people are just…..dickish!

Charging idle fees is OK to some extent I guess... It punishes the people who end up running late or forget in the middle of other things. It doesn't stop the nefarious ICE (and EV) drivers who block charge spaces. Nor does it stop the worst of them all, those who charge and show up on time to unplug, but don't move. They just came by to unplug so they don't get slapped with extra fees.

Not feeling a lot of empathy for the "forgetful" types. Especially since their app should be warning them. Those that block charging spaces should be treated in the same way as those that block handicapped spaces. Hefty fines.

But when they get notification that their charge is complete, they can come out to the car, unplug, go back to the mall without incurring idle fees.

I have seen EVs parked in L2 charging spots not plugged in. They treat the spots as a privileged space just because they drive an EV.

I‘m not defending ass-hats, just being realistic. And I don’t think it will happen often, but it will happen.

If there is no law, there should be! I'm not too terribly concerned about L2, but for fairly sparse DC chargers there should be a penalty for assholishness. And you don't need people for this. A couple of cameras and some software will do the trick. If you can have cameras issue tickets for speeding and running red lights, they can cover these too.

It’s getting to a point where ICE might be better to take on a long trip for only a couple of bucks more.

A couple bucks more? It’s already to the point where it’s equivalent if you’re exclusively DCFC.

I’ve done 1000mi/week for the last 5 weeks. Everytime I stopped, I took a look at gas prices as well. The breakeven was a truck that could get approximately 25-28mpg on the highway That’s doable with a Ridgeline, some RAM models. The F150 Hybrid is pretty close.

That aside, of course I’d lose the benefits of the EV torque, acceleration, etc. but from a purely cost perspective it’s already there. Luckily my solar powers me when I’m at home.

Wrentham Mall has parking lot security patrols, the town police are also actively patrolling the area to manage the traffic nuisance on RT-1A & I-495. They can tow these folks if the mall management deems it needs to be done.

In my example, the reason for plugging in again (but not initiating a session request) is to appear to be charging to the casual observer, ie. security and police patrols might not have a clue if they don't look at the terminal display.

EA is drawing Tesla's away from Superchargers?!?! Where? If pricing is more important to you than the ability to pull into a station and actually have it work, then I guess I see it. I'll gladly pay more if I know I can plan a trip using a dependable charger vs. the hit/miss of EA.

This is just a single data point. Last March while traveling to LA, I pulled into Cabazon outlet mall. There are 3 EA chargers and 2 EVGo. 2 were taken up by Teslas with adapters. After I was done, I passed Tesla Super Chargers on the other end of the mall. Out of 12 chargers, 3 were being used.

You can see examples on Out of Spec videos. Teslas adapter charging at EA chargers that are in close proximity to Superchargers. In some instances, Teslas can get a faster charge for a lower kWh price. You know, if they find an EA that is working and not being blocked by an ID.4

Personally, I'm not price sensitive when it comes to on-the-road fast charging. All I want is a charger that is available and that works to its rating. At slightly higher than fossil fuel prices, it's worth it for the quiet ride. The other 99% of the time, I enjoy the home charging at off-peak rates.
