I'd be interested as well. I'll have to look into it more, but a heat pump is basically reversing the a/c afaik. It could be a totally different setup, or it could be a few parts and a reprogram. I guess that remains to be seen.
It's likely to be a pretty different setup. A heat pump is similar in theory but a lot of the implementation will be different in practice - especially if it's going to achieve a high COP at low temperatures.

Also some relatively fancy multi-way valves are used at least in Tesla's design to allow any of the cabin, battery/motors, and exterior to be used as source or sink independent of the others. This feature (simultaneous heating and cooling) is essentially what distinguishes commercial building heat pumps from residential ones and in that space it comes at a considerable price premium.

I sure wish this could be retrofit to my '22 but it seems unlikely!

True. I've been trying to read up on it and look at Fords patents for it. I guess we will just have to wait and see. Good thing is no body changes really, so someone could do it, I assume. It will come down to cost vs value.

This is great and all, and maybe I havent read all the details, but they still arent offering what most people are looking for, which is a 6.5 box option.
While I also want a 6.5’ bed, it’s not what “most people are looking for.” The Lightning cab/bed combination is based on what the most popular 1/2 ton configuration has been for the last 20 years.

Seems likely the Flash and I'm sure all '24's are still missing that Android based OS. Ford, how is that going, promised two years ago. At least fulfilling my prophecy that it would never see the light of day in the Lightning.

Yeah, Android automotive is a big disappointment, especially the way Ford has just seemed to avoid talking about it. The Lack of guidance just makes it appear all the more hopeless.

It's as if they decided to abandon as much effort as possible on the lightning and save it for later vehicles. I don't know if they are having technical challenges with it or they are expending effort on how to monetize it in some form of subscription. I'll never forget how Ford was selling the crappy Sync about 10 years ago and trying to charge like 800$ for navigation and another 100$ plus yearly fee. They're probably looking for an angle on how to justify an android automotive subscription.

I spent 10 minutes reading everything twice to see if Ford made the 350 mile range claim on current vehicles or The Verge just wrote an incorrect article.

Looks like it's just TheVerge being wrong this time unless we are getting some sort of software unlock in the future. Off Topic, but my truck with 40,000 miles is showing 99% battery health.

Smart move by Ford to offer this greatest hits model as it will become the new sweet spot for sales. Other Notes and Changes
Only a BlueCruise Trial of 90 days on Flash

Differences between 511a Lariat and Flash (all speculation)
No Moonroof (none in image)
No Second Row heated seats
No heated steering wheel
No phone as a key
No heated or cooled front seats
No mention of onboard scales
No Ford Charge Station Pro included

- Personally, other than the moonroof and the fact that I would have to buy a charge station pro separately, these aren't deal breakers for me.
As a Lariat owner Living in Florida, I wouldn't have an issue loosing all of these features except Phone as Key. I love that feature. I hope someone comes up with an additional iPhone app to use an Apple Watch as a key using both cellular and BlueTooth like there is on our Teslas. I hate the bulky key FOBS. At least Tesla uses a credit card format on model Y’s for card key. No bulky FOB.

I know you can use Ford Pass app on iPhone with limited features. And it requires cellular connection on both phone and car. With Watch for Tesla you can operate windows, start and drive the car, honk horn, flash lights, start and stop charge, view charge percentage, set max charge level, tun on AC, check tire pressures, open/close power trunk, operate homelink garage door, vent windows, turn on seat heaters, and sevearl other things like make the car fart.

The big news is the heat pump and possibly means it will be an option on other trims.

The F-150 Lightning Flash expands on the XLT model line by adding in-demand tech capabilities, including an extended-range battery, which has a targeted EPA-estimated range of 320 miles, available Ford BlueCruise1 hands-free highway driving, and a standard 15.5-inch touchscreen for seamless interactions and navigation. The F-150 Lightning Flash customer values an EV powertrain and advanced tech features paired with a more accessible price point and the F-150’s proven ability to handle anything- whether it’s people, pets, or gear.

“The F-150 Lightning Flash is a direct outcome of engaging with and learning from our customers. This truck combines many of the technology-forward features our customers love in our EV lineup, at a more accessible price. With an EPA-estimated 320 miles of range, the Lighting Flash is another example of the speed at which we are adapting to grow our EV business.” - - Marin Gjaja, Chief Operating Officer, Ford Model e

Our available hands-free highway driving technology, Ford BlueCruise,2 can help make driving less stressful and more enjoyable. The F-150 Lightning Flash comes with version 1.2, which includes Lane Change Assist, allowing the driver to change lanes hands-free by tapping the turn signal once the path is clear, and In-Lane Repositioning to help to keep the vehicle in its lane while subtly shifting position away from vehicles in adjacent lanes. It will also improve over time with software updates. And, with a new flexible option, customers can choose to activate BlueCruise at any point during their vehicle ownership journey – at purchase, annually or even monthly – and use it when they need it. Customers can also try BlueCruise for 90 days from vehicle purchase during a complimentary trial.

Does the 23 lariat have a heat pump and is that something that can be added if you live in a cold climate?

The '23 does not have a heat pump and I would guess it would be too complicated to swap.

The heat pump will be standard on all 2024 trims.

The Ford-patented heat pump uses vapor injection. That is better than usual technology. It is very nice to see Ford making that choice.

Vapor injection is the feature that enables Mitsubishi Hyper Heat and other "cold climate heat pumps" to deliver heat in very low temperatures. Good news for cold climate drivers, since it will add comfort while lessening the winter mileage hit.

By the way, if you get a residential heat pump and you live above the Mason Dixon Line, be sure to install a cold climate heat pump. No need to pay for that feature if you live south of that line.

Heat pumps rely on ambient heat. They do not work well at ambient temperatures below 35 degrees Fahrenheit. If the ambient temperature is below freezing, running a heat pump is not going to keep you warm.
This is absolutely not true. Modern heat pumps use refrigerants with thermal properties that allow extraction of heat from much lower ambient temp ranges. They also incorporate compression and evaporation cycles where needed to "concentrate" heat density to heat a column of air (or "dilute" the heat density to cool the air) in the lines over which air is circulated. A good heat pump will produce functional heat down to -30F (ish), but will not be terribly efficient at that temp range. High end heat pumps will utilize banks of resistance heaters that kick in past some efficiency threshold.

If only someone would figure out how to get a geothermal heat pump into my F150: then, "problem solved!"
