It's likely to be a pretty different setup. A heat pump is similar in theory but a lot of the implementation will be different in practice - especially if it's going to achieve a high COP at low temperatures.I'd be interested as well. I'll have to look into it more, but a heat pump is basically reversing the a/c afaik. It could be a totally different setup, or it could be a few parts and a reprogram. I guess that remains to be seen.
Also some relatively fancy multi-way valves are used at least in Tesla's design to allow any of the cabin, battery/motors, and exterior to be used as source or sink independent of the others. This feature (simultaneous heating and cooling) is essentially what distinguishes commercial building heat pumps from residential ones and in that space it comes at a considerable price premium.
I sure wish this could be retrofit to my '22 but it seems unlikely!
