Hi,

Just purchased a Flash a few days ago. I could not install the Ford Pass app on my iphone 7 because the iOS version is too old and cannot be updated.

A few questions:
1. Do I even need this app or can I do everything I need to do from the truck’s control panel?

2. The dealer said something about calling them back when I do have a phone capable of running the app, so they could set up my account and give me some points or credits or something? I had no idea what she was talking about, but it was closing hours and I didn’t want to keep her there late, so I figured I could learn more later. Can someone fill me in on what she was talking about?

3. Is there a legacy version of the app that works on iOS 15?

It is not required. I find that I rarely use it as well. The only real value I get from it is the ability to start conditioning the cabin remotely (aka remote start).

If you don’t have it you won’t miss it, once you have it you won’t stop using it. It’s the only reliable way to see how fast the truck is charging live, what the state of charge is from your couch, unlocking or locking truck remotely (did I remember to lock it? Hmm…), hitting remote start from movie theater, checking location of where you parked, etc.

Has zero impact on drive or use, it’s just the soft perks of a new vehicle.

The pts are usually 30,000 (roughly $300) worth of parts/service. Most either get the all weather floor mats with them or use for free tire rotations. They do expire after 1 year - I don’t believe you need the app for a Ford Account online tied to your email (computer browser is fine).

You can use and drive the truck just like any other before the apps came along. They should not delay setting up remote access however. They should show the truck delivered and give you all access just like you did have the app. You can still access information about the truck through ford.com without an app. Tell them to activate it all as you’ll set up the account later.

Buy a used iphone 8 Plus off eBay. For about $100. Use your SIM card from your iPhone 7 to keep your phone number and no need to call the carrier and activate..

It the keep the installer, you would see it in the App Store. For my older iOS device when I go to install an app the installer says that the OS is out of date and would I like to install a previous edition.

Do you have an iPad? You can use it on there too.

I like the form factor of the iPhone 7 (not too big).
I suggest you get an iPhone SE 2022, it's the same size physically, but has wireless charging and 5G.
Keep the iPhone 7 as a backup in case you or someone looses or breaks their phone and needs something right away.
The app is very useful to me, I use it all the time.

I find my FordPass incredibly useful and I wouldn't want to go without it.
I NEVER carry my key fob with me ever since I bought the truck. All you need is your phone which you ALWAYS have with you, don't you? Lol
My favorite functions:
1. You can lock/unlock the truck remotely (including the frunk and the gate),
2. You know where the truck is at all times since it's using GPS (in case gets stolen).
3. You know exactly how much juice you used to charge the truck. I absolutely love this feature because it literally tells me how much I save every month vs driving ICE F-150 I previously had (amount of kWh x 17 cents). I save in upwards of $200/month driving my amazing truck. Then you calculate oil changes for every 5K miles in addition to that AND not spending countless hours (over the course of one year) getting gasoline!
4. You can precondition the cabin remotely (extremely useful here in TX in summer months).
5. I tow often and the app allows you to check trailer lights without anyone assisting you!
There's my 5 cents! Lol

I Stopped using it and never looked back. Figured I've probably driven to the moon and back in the last 47 years without needing a phone to do so nor do I have any desire to enable Ford to hoover up personal information.

I use the app daily to verify our charging sessions as we have a Lightning and Mach e. My wife remote starts climate control daily, especially when we have severe temperatures.

If something is up with your vehicle, you will get alerts. Also useful to check your tire pressure. I travel quite a bit, so I keep an eye on my charging speeds when on public charging.

I've been using FordPass for years, but I would be fine without it, and I wouldn't buy a new phone just for FP. You can do what you need to do from inside the truck; you just have to actually go to the truck to do that, which isn't always preferred when it's cold, dark, rainy, snowy, there are carnivorous quail out there, etc.

...And I can't wait to try out the new trailer light check feature, which just seems really cool.

sw engineering manager,
There are other apps you will find useful for road trips. And many fast-charge networks will require you to use their apps. Like the Tesla app.

You're not charging on a trip without a newer phone, period.

It’s time to get a new phone. The first time the ap informs you that you had a charge failure, and you really needed it fully charged the next morning, it will be worth it! There so many other little things that the ap does that you will be thankful for, but you won’t know it until you need it!

just do it!

As I stated earlier, I suggest you buy a iPhone 8 or 8plus for about $100 off eBay. Until recently I was using an 8+ and my wife still has an 8 plus.

The app is handy to monitor charge at home and when out and about. Plus it tracks and stores charge usage very well. You can use it to set up a Tesla account and activate plug and charge on Tesla Fast Chargers.

here is a screen shot of my recent charge history.
