Well, it finally happened to me too. XLT SR with 8k on the truck, morning after the 6.8.0 update had powertrain malfunction on the app and service soon on the dash. power reduced to only 53% so still drove just fine, called the dealership and they said give it a couple days if it's driving soon and see if theres a new OTA or it clears but now I have a charging fault on my home charger and won't charge.
guess I'm going to try DCFC to see if I can get through xmas before having to bring it in.

I am sad about it.

I had that error once about 2 months ago. The truck could not go up a slight incline. Scared me for sure. After leaving the truck off for a few minutes it started up with no errors. That was 5,000 miles ago. No issue since. Let’s hope you have the same experience.

Thank you TaxmanHog for your reply. I truly appreciate your help. My original problem started Sunday evening and hasn’t changed. I haven’t received any updates or notices that I’m aware of.
My current SOC is 53%. I’m attaching pics.

Update:

after a three week wait for my repair they “fixed” it by installing critical updates.
It drove fine for about five miles then the Powertrain malfunction warning came back with the red ring of death.

They are closed up for the holidays now. No tech available for 4 days.

getting really upset with the situation at this point! Back to the DCFC I go.

I got the powertrain malfunction message on Christmas Day where my power was reduced down to 56%, even though the battery charge was at 90%. The power distribution screen is a quick way to check if there is power going to both motors, indicated by blue while driving and green during regeneration.

Seems like there is a common issue where sometimes after a software update the front motor will not be getting power and need to reboot, a day later or so the issue is resolved. Mine does show power to both motors, so most likely needs a module replacement, dropped off at the dealer today.

brought it to the dealership and the set me up with a rental ford escape (boy you get used to the joys of an EV fast, I can't believe how slow and noisy this thing is lol), and it appears I have a bad battery control module #6

they don't have an estimate on time yet but the guy said they had one lightning with issue where the part came in a couple weeks, and another where it was a couple months so we'll just have to see, I'll be back to provide updates for posterity.

I had this happen to me yesterday. Truck limits power to 20%. App says high-voltage battery warning.

I called the dealer, and they can't look at it until Tuesday. They looked at the codes remotely and thought it might be a software update?? I am assuming they are talking about that recall?

They told me I could continue to drive it, but I told them no it wasn't safe to drive.

I dropped it off today and the non-EV tech told me (again, without looking at the actual vehicle) that it'd be a 4-6 week repair...I feel like he must be misinformed.

Any thoughts as to what to expect? It seems like the power reductions are all over the place -- does 20% mean something? They already replaced a battery module under that one pro-active replacement program.

It’s very unlikely that a software update will fix your problem, more likely needs one or more additional battery modules replaced.

The repair doesn’t take 4-6 weeks, but they might be backed up that for before they can get to you. How long did it take to get you last module replaced?

I have my truck at the dealer now to replace a single battery module and I was told 3 to 4 days for the part to arrive and then 2 to 3 days to install.

Last time it took maybe a week or so to get the part, but because it was preemptive, they pre-ordered the part. It took them about 10 days to do the repair though because they had some sort of faulty battery balancing tool -- and that was the first time they've ever used it.

I guess we'll see how this goes, thanks guys.

First time I got error the truck would only operate in reverse. Second time I was at 20% (this was after an update). First repair was 6 weeks, battery came from Korea. Second repair was just under 4 weeks, procurement of battery was still the long pole.

I came out to my 22 Lariat ER at lunch time and it said 93% power. The dash indicated that there was power to both axles. There has been no work the truck since Thanksgiving and the high voltage battery was down to 60%. I put it on the charger (Level 2) when I got back from lunch to charge it back up to 80%. When I started the truck, it read 100%. I do not recall having this happen previously.

I also did not have any error messages or warning lights on the dash. Except for the 93% power, everything looked normal.

Powertrain error usually reduces power to 56%, sounds like your instance may be from something else. Was it really cold?

Did they get the battery module yet? They ordered one for mine, didn't have an ETA but acted like hopefully it should be ready next week.
