Has anyone else received one of these surveys from Strategic Vision?

I received this survey from Strategic Vision a few days ago. I went ahead and took is as Ford saw fit to give my information to them. The survey took a solid 20 minutes to go through and focuses on why you selected the F-150 Lightning, what you compared it to, what your buying experience was like, and what your impressions are now that you've owned the vehicle for awhile.

I don't always fill out surveys and I'll even abandon them midstream if they start to get into fluffy stuff like what-if marketing, but this one seems to stay pretty straightforward with your deciding factors and experience.

You could summarize my responses in 4 easy bullets:
  • Truck the is best value in EVs for being a real truck, so I bought it
  • Post-sales service & support sucks rocks due to lack of EV-educated service technicians at dealerships
  • Truck is physically rock-solid in the F-150 tradition
  • Tech stack is absolute hot garbage

Registration data is public. Who said Ford gave them anything?

Was sucks rocks one of the answers in a multiple-choice🤣😂🤣
No, but "Failure" was. I used that response to a lot of the post-purchase support and Technology Stack questions. I should have taken screenshots, the survey writers had a bit of a sense of humor.

A bit off topic, but I've had meetings with professional statisticians and surveyors, and I realized that it is very difficult to develop surveys and write questions to get meaningful responses and useful data. They told us not to send them proposed questions but rather tell them what we want to know because our questions would basically be trash.

I believe that. When I feel strongly enough, I max out the character limit with... uh.... constructive feedback.

Ya, I got one a while back, got midstream also, and for what ever reason I bailed. (Too personal, stupid questions, along those lines)

Yeah, open-ended questions don't really give much useful data. It can't be aggregated and they have to take what is said with a grain of salt. As a side gig I teach a class at a university and they do faculty evaluations with rated questions but also boxes for general comments. I'll get some constructive feedback but there will always be responses that I ignore. I could get glowing reviews from 24 students and 1 who says I'm the worst professor ever because that one student is just mad at the world and can never be pleased.

As a scientist and someone who develops and uses similar kinds of surveys (we call them instruments---because they measure things), this is absolutely true.

A poorly-designed or poorly-calibrated instrument will rarely give you the data you're hoping for. People understand that for something like a thermometer or a scientific camera--this isn't something just anyone can go build in their garage without a lot of trial and error (calibration). The same is true for other kinds of instruments that aren't as obviously "instruments" in the sense many people imagine. You can't just go build a (useful) survey in Google Forms just because you think you know what questions you want to ask...

Yeah, open-ended questions don't really give much useful data.
I am often asked "how far can you go before charging". Which seems like a specific question, but it has too many variables, and I regret how I have answered it in the past.

I have come to think this is really a "open-ended" question. In the past I would say something like 160 miles (I have a SR Pro). This is a terrible answer. I am working to respond with a more complex answer with examples, like it takes about 30% of the battery to drive to a specific location.

I get asked that all the time as well. As we know, there is not a simple answer. I just say "range is about 300 miles (ER) in ideal conditions but can be less in cold temperatures, interstate driving, and heavy towing, and in the absolute worst case maybe half that, but of course you'll want to give yourself a buffer and not wait until the last mile to charge."

That seems to satisfy people and hopefully doesn't give people unreasonable expectations. I think people really aren't looking for a detailed answer because the general population has no idea if range is 100 miles or 500 miles.

This survey had three distinct sections.

First with Quantitative questions:
How long have you owned it, how many miles, how many times has it required service for repair, how many recalls, how often do you charge, do you use the vehicle primarily for business or pleasure...

Those have some real measurement on initial quality statistics and usage.

Next was Qualitative questions:
How was the purchase experience, Do you like the layout of the instrument cluster, are the HVAC controls easy to access, quality of interior materials... The response categories were (Hate It, Failure, Unacceptable, Acceptable, Excellent, Love it)

The qualitative questions can provide useful feedback on what is working well and where some things need attention.

Last was what I call the Mushy Feelings section:
Does the vehicle make you feel proud, is the vehicle part of your identity, does owning a BEV make you feel important...

The last set of questions, if they can extract any real information, is beyond my understanding of what they are trying to achieve other than trying to determine if I'm a narcissist, narcissistic sociopath, or just a plain old asshole.

I got an email from them, but I didnt get all the way thru as I was trying to do it on my iPhone and it was a freaking long set of questions. I think it timed out and I can't get back in to finish it.
