So if im activated on oval plan, and i have a tesla member subscription. When i go to charg the lightning, will i be billed both or just tesla app? Is there something to be done before i charge? Thanks

I would disable the plug and charge and just use the Tesla app so you benefit from the reduced membership rate.

If you activate the charger through the Tesla app first, it will use your membership. Plug-n-charge will still work, ie. You don't have to disable it.

If you just plug in, you won't get the special member pricing. The same is true for EA and other networks.

I've seen several people mention that they were charged by Ford instead of the Tesla app. Maybe just a hiccup in the Tesla app so ymmv. Then again, Ford sucks at software so bad that I couldn't disable plug and charge if I wanted to. Says it's off but is actually enabled which seems to be a common issue.

On a recent trip, I disabled Plug & Charge. I activated sessions with the Tesla app, and plugged in.

Twice, the Tesla session failed, and Plug & Charge took over. Luckily, I caught the first session after a few dollars, and the second one right away.

So disabling Plug & Charge is not disabling it...

I truly know a number of things can happen here and you are just describing the problem. However my 6 year history with Tesla and my almost 3 year history with Ford tells me the Tesla software almost guaranteed did not have a hiccup. Ford likely caused that problem somewhere along the way. Turn your Ford billing stuff off and see if you can replicate the problem.

There can be some confusion between Ford's 'Plug N Charge' activation protocol, and Tesla's own 'Plug N Charge' normal activation...

A) Since Tesla units have no screen, input, or buttons, there is only ONE WAY to activate the unit: by PLUGGING IN. It then 'reads' the software and approves the vehicle as one that is acceptable to charge, then activates, and provides charging power, EVEN if you have 'pre-activated' the unit from the app.

B) While you can 'pre-activate' the unit from your Tesla APP, or even with the FordPass App, it still requires PLUGGING IN to truly activate the charger unit, itself. The Tesla unit still goes thru the same protocol of 'reading' the software of the vehicle, etc., as 'pre-activation' really only serves to tell it 'who' you want to bill you: Tesla, or Ford.

For instance, yesterday, I pulled up in our KIA EV9 to a Tesla Supercharger, to try out KIA's first day of available charging with Tesla. My KIA has no app to 'pre-activate' the unit. I do not have the Tesla APP, or membership. So, I 'pre-activated' the unit with my FORD PASS APP, which my LIGHTNING normally uses.
So, the Tesla unit has been 'pre-activated' by the Ford Pass App, possibly thinking that the LIGHTNING is plugging in, but no, the KIA EV9 was 'plugging in', and, therefore, the Tesla unit has to still 'approve' this vehicle, even with 'pre-activation' from the Ford BLUE OVAL network.

I can imagine that while some owners will disable PLUG N CHARGE on their LIGHTNING, so that they can allow their TESLA APP membership to activate the unit, the BLUE OVAL account protocol continues to 'see' the plugging in, and therefore activates the PLUG N CHARGE protocol, regardless....

The one thing I don’t like about Superchargers is their lack of a screen. With my Tesla, the car display gives mewhat I want except price per kW.

I am confused though , from reading this thread. I joined the Tesla membership program, charged over 600 kW, on 1 month, and after the fact, figured out that I did not receive the discounted price.

In this thread I read some who say disable Plug & Play on the truck screen. Others say not to. I just canceled my Tesla discount membership.

What really works?

You do not need to disable Plug & Charge to get the paid discount you subscribed to. Just activate before you plug in. Disabling Plug & Charge also disables the Public Charging app, which I would not want to go without.

Plug & Charge will not activate if the session has already been initiated prior to plugging in. The Supercharger will already be activated, and it will not ask the vehicle for the Plug & Charge payment credentials. Just activate first, then plug in, and it doesn't matter if P&C is on or off. Same for EA.

How did you activate each session?

If you paid for the membership in the Tesla app, and then activated each session in the Tesla app, you would pay through the Tesla app and therefore receive your discount. If you didn't, you wouldn't.
