What prompted you to trade your 2022 for a 2024?
I use the lightning as my work truck for construction so there were a couple reasons. My 2022 was a lariat ER that I loved and I had decided to keep it until 100kmi. Although I had some concerns about a few things that would not be covered under warranty after 3/36. The wear of the leather seats and the moon roof (I never even open the shade.) Neither of these were that concerning really….
Then Ford sent me a private offer of $2500 or $3,500 off a new Lightning. That combined with the Federal rebate, state rebate, cash incentives and low apr, I was able to buy a 2024 Flash with the options I wanted and lower my payment.
I also really wanted the heat pump system lol.
The only thing I miss from the lariat is the auto wipers. First world problems.

I wish someone had definite answers to clarify the high voltage battery constructions...just because I am curious.
@MickeyAO probably has some first hand observations.

I paid cash for mine, title in hand. I plan on driving mine for at least 10 years.
Over time, the initial depreciation hit basically becomes irrelevant, ie you're only going take a bath if you try to bail early in the ownership experience. While all pickup trucks depreciate, there is truly a floor for F150s that are in good running order and well-maintained.

The initial depreciation hit is massive for all EVs. If you bought a brand new F150 Lightning with the plan of selling or trading it within 2-3 years, it's not going to be a great transaction for you. If you bought a used F150 Lightning, with the big hit already behind you, the math will probably work out for you.

My lighting is by far the most expensive, impressive vehicle I or my wife have ever owned. She made me promise I’d drive it into the ground when we got it, which I intend to do bc it’s also the most fun / coolest thing I’ve ever owned

her Honda CRV will be next in line to replace; given all the upgrades we’ve made to accommodate the truck at my house, I’m hoping we’ll switch her to ab

My lease expires in 28 and yes I will be considering another Lightning. The big question is what else will be out there. If there is a 3/4 or 1 ton option, I will be favoring that over a half ton.
When I set up the lease, I planned for the miles of use at 75% of what I drive my F350 based on what the national trends in EV mileage are. Turns out that the Lightning will get more miles in four years than the F350 because anytime there's an option as to which vehicle to take, for myself, my sons, my wife, and the hired help; it is lets take the Lightning.
Another reason why the Lightning will still be a go to for me is three weeks ago, my wife's Traverse had to spend a couple of days at the mechanic and I haven't seen my Lightning since. The Traverse is back at home but hasn't moved in three weeks. I am back driving my F350 full time.

I plan on buying a 10 year Ford Premium Care plan, so 8-10 years. But I'm almost 68, so this could very well be my last truck.

No clear exit plan. The range and charging speed is perfectly fine for my use cases that I don't foresee changing, so I'm not too worried about better battery tech coming out. While I could imagine an industry to replace batteries in cars after market, I'm assuming the frame wouldn't be in a good enough state to make that cost effective.

I think someone posted above, but the 131kwh battery is probably worth more than the rest of the truck at this point, so finding some way to convert it into a home backup to work with my solar system would be great. Ideally the battery could be removed from the truck and mounted under my deck.

I use my Lightning, like all of my Ford trucks since early 80’s, for local transportation and occasional hauling and towing. Although I might like a smaller truck, say a Ranger EV, I’ll probably keep this until it becomes unreliable.
I don’t miss getting OTA updates because the truck works as it is. If Blue Cruise goes away, I won’t miss it. Heck, I’ve only used the NACS adapter once to try it out. This truck works for me.

I’m at a different stage of life than most Lightning owners here. Actuarial charts show my life expectancy to be only 8.95 years remaining.

My vehicle buying philosophy has always been to buy low and sell high. My Lightning Lariat ER is my 69th new vehicle purchase since 1970. I bought it after the massive July 2023 price drop and got it for about $20k below revised lowered MSRP after rebates, discounts, PCO and tax credit. Paid cash so I’m not upside down.

Saying all that I expect my driving years are nearing the end. I expect to keep it until I can no longer drive. I think I will know when to quit. I gave up motorcycles and flying airplanes a few years ago when I noticed that my reaction time was slowing down. I’m about to give up towing our 5th wheel with our F-450 beast in the next few months because it’s becoming a chore.

So bottom line I’ll keep the Lightning as long as it makes sense. Then I’ll hand it down to my daughter or my grandson for them to enjoy this remarkable truck.

Got the Ford extended warranty - 10 years, 125,000 miles. I'm on par for the warranty to time out right at that 125k mark. I'm excited where battery tech will be in 2033 and will almost certainly upgrade at early retirement. (age 55)

I’m curious what your thoughts are for when you plan to trade or sell the truck?

Drive it till the wheels fall off?

Trade at 100k miles, when the warranty is done?

Trade in at 90k miles?

I’m just learning about the front end of buying/living with an EV, but I don’t know what folks are doing on the back end.

Is there “best time” to move onto another?

I’d rather not be buying a new vehicle every few years.
I have the Ford extended warranty so both the truck and I will be vying to see who gives up the ghost first. I wave to gas stations as I glide by, I toot my horn at the Ford dealership where I spent $150 for periodic servicing on my F-350 flatbed dually with a V-8 diesel. So, unless she does me wrong, I’ll keep her. I'm in Northeast Texas, so no rusted frame. I’ll just keep tossing tires her way and tell her what a good girl she is.
