Was wondering about this as well. If the great Ford wizards ever determine it's my turn for a Lightning, I'm planning on standard range and I have a whole home generator. Everything I've read says the standard range charge times aren't different from 48-amp to 80 and I don't need the home backup power.

The 48 amp Ford Connected Charge Station is an option available to purchase through Ford. It's just not included with a Lightning.

Where are you finding this price?

I was able to add to my cart earlier and see the price. I wanted to think it over, since there are other options, I didn't place the order. Now the link is broken.

This means either (1) they sold out, (2) the price was wrong, or (3) the website is messed up.

I got the email too. I responded that I’m interested in charger installation. I know I can handle 48Å at 240v because I ripped out double electric ovens 20 years ago on a 50Å circuit. I would like the Sunrun electrician to tell me if I can use the 80Å charger with out major modifications. If not, I’ll take a grand for it.

I currently use a ChargePoint Flex.

One of the reasons they call it "Flex" is that you can configure it as hard-wired, or via a plug, and you can configure it through software to use just about any size circuit breaker and it will adjust the flow. I configured mine to 60A because that's all my electrician said was available in my breaker box.

I also love their software, especially the iPhone App, which is even useful for people who don't even own their charger to find chargers nearby.

A 50A circuit will only support 40A of charging. You need to derate by 20 percent for continuous load.
