Not sure I'm following that one. You can still charge a vehicle at a lower amperage than the CSP is capable of providing. It will just negotiate a lower rate. Set the CSP at 80A and the MME will pull its max of 48A.

Wait....the MME will only accept up to 48A AC charging?

I did not know that. I was actually going to replace the portable charger with the Pro Charger and use that for both vehicles. I guess that idea is out now.

:poop:
You can still do that, the whole point of an EVSE is to negotiate with the vehicle what it will accept. So if you have the FCSP set to 80A and plug in a Mach-e, it will only supply 48A. It works fine, you just don't get the benefit of the 80A charging rate.

Note, the same thing will happen with an SR Lightning.

Okay well that's a lot better.

I thought there was another gotcha that I hadn't heard of. After all it is "Disappointment Thursday".

I plugged my truck in at night when it was in the low 70s here in socal. It blasted my messages with errors in the FordPass app, but I didn't see anything about over heating. Not sure what's going on here. I guess I'll try calling Ford again today.

Wow. And I haven't even taken mine out of the box yet and it's already broken. I'm still using my portable charger (32A).

So the 80 amp EVSE really isn't 80 amps afterall. Fabulous.

Thanks to all the early-adopters and trail-blazers for pointing this out.

I wonder if providing VINs to somebody who works for Ford could help determine what this looks like from the vehicle's side of things, since errors are all reported to the cloud by the TCU (like all the time) It might be instructive to gather that sort of data from a group of known users who are having these issues. Hmmm

...meanwhile I'll go call my electrician....
I think we are seeing a few defective EVSEs. I’m not ready to condemn the design (yet).

Vehicle data sent to the cloud won’t include any details about what’s going on in the EVSE. The vehicle only knows that the EVSE stopped supplying (or reduced) power, not why it happened.

- Same issues here-- I've been charging at night and only get the error messages super late at night and I had 74 message a few nights ago.
-When I check the app, I've never gotten overheating, but occasionally get "servers can't be reached" or something like that. I'm wondering if it might even be an issue with my wifi as I'm using a mesh network (eero pro 6e) .
- If not wifi, I'd bet it's something like the amount of power dropping randomly late at night and the charger stopping when that happens.
-Ran at 64 last night with no error messages.

Any luck speaking with Ford? What department did you end up communicating with?

Do we know if the charging problems are tied to the Pro Charger, or is it the 80 A? Anyone with a Clipper Creek 80 A tried it yet?

I charged at 80A using my Tesla HPWC plus TeslaTap without spam.

Not yet. Been stuck in meetings at work.
I'm on the phone with them again and it's the same thing. I've been on the phone for 30+ minutes, and am now talking to the 4th person there. Went from Customer Relations, to Customer Relations, FordPass, and now New Vehicle Support. This guy at New Vehicle Support is clueless, he tried passing me off back to Customer Relations. He's just reading off troubleshooting issues from a book, and nothing matches this problem. Getting no where really.

Update: They are sending me off to SunRun to troubleshoot since it came from them!

That is so frustrating. I am going to call tonight. I hope you have better luck with SunRun. Thanks for keeping us posted!

He didn't even know if Sunrun would support it since they didn't do the install. He was just guessing. I told him to go do some research and find who can help me out and call me back. Early adopter problems 🤦🏻‍♂️.

Hello @Ford Motor Company

Who at your organization should owners contact regarding charging issues with the Ford/Sunrun supplied Charge Station Pro that new Lightning owners received with their Extended Range trucks?

Ford F-150 Lightning Charge Station Pro Problems Pro

Thanks,

Mike
