Ok. Phoning some friends here.

I have had my Lariat ER for 2 months and 2300 miles. I live in California where the temp has been 35 to 70 degrees out. I have the all terrain tire swap instead of all season. For about 400 of the miles I have had a lightweight paragon tonneau cover. I am not carryobg

I have been AVERAGING 1.7kwh per mile. When driving long distances down the 101 at 70 or 80mph I have been getting 1.4 to 1.5. I have tried pre heating and even turning the HVAC off. What is odd is that sometimes I will do highway driving 40 miles and get 2.0 kWh. Off highway I get a great 2.8+.

1.5 doesn’t even get me 200 miles of range at full charge (not including battery degradation over time).

anyone else seeing such horrible range? Any advice?

I have had 2 different Tesla X and have never seen this wide variation.

You're driving a brick, not a sedan.

You will see a range hit as the temps drop, noticeably around 50 degrees, more around 30, a lot around 20 or below.

If you drive 65 on the highway and note the miles per kilowatt hour you're getting, that will give you good info. Reset, and drive a mile and note the readout. Accelerate to 70, reset and drive a mile and note. Then 75, then 80. You'll see an enormous impact with the higer speeds.

You should also note that the This Trip, Trip 1, and Trip 2 MAY report inaccurate information at times, so make sure you're verifying the miles you drove. Sometimes the miles don't reset, but the energy does, so it's way out of wack.

Your efficiency numbers don't seem of concern to me. I drive slower, but in a colder climate, and my drives have most consistently been 1.3 or 1.4 in the dead of winter. I think the cold is worse on range than top speed, but I say this unscientifically.

IMO, your Tesla's weren't shaped like a brick and didn't have AT tires, and that is the difference on your highway mileage. Everything is a factor. Speed, temperature, elevation changes and wind.

To give you an idea of expected kWh .. today it was in the mid 50s in New York . I drove from Manhattan to the Hamptons and got 2.2 mil/kWh .. see attached screen shot. Notice no regen because it was all Highway between 70 and 80mph and mainly with blue cruise on . If it’s 30 degrees out I’m getting 1.7-1.8 with the same drive and if it’s 20 degrees out 1.5 … preconditioning helps immensely for me though . Lariat ER without all terrain tires.

I would expect to get around 1.8 at 75mph on flat ground with no wind. If you're driving those speeds with a headwind it will be worse.

I do think the EPA system is just plain stupid. They should rate the vehicle at 75mph which is much more realistic than 60 or 65. You can't drive on any freeway at 65 without getting run over.

With cruise on at 70 with no climate control I avg 1.8 or 1.9 miles per kw with my pro in 60 degree weather. I have never seen my GOM show higher than 220 Mile range at 100% charge. I took delivery in September and it was warm then. I always precondition. I am not overly worried because I don’t use it for long distance travel anyway.

I echo this. 1.8 for me in the summer at 70-80. 1.4-1.5 in the cold on ATs.

In my experience, it’s the tires. I’ve played with a lot of tires on the Tesla and my Rivian. You can affect it by as much as 30% with the same diameter but different widths, compounds, and patterns.

Agreed. Love my BFG AT tires but can literally hear them gripping the road. I regularly commute the freeway 200miles to work and average 1.5-1.8 @70mph with the BFG tires.

I keep saying a lot of Tesla owners who get their Cybertruck will be in for a rude awakening. Or will Musk surprise us 🤔
