Thanks for all this useful info here. I just got my 22 Lariat ER last week and want to get all the updates. I just ordered the Mongoose and a 2nd Clore PL2320. Would someone mind taking a look at my VIN, so I can get a head start? Thanks

VIN: 1FT6W1EV1NWG00694
Do you have auto-updates turned on? At this point, you ordered the Mongoose and are going to update it yourself, but I checked your VIN in PTS and you have been getting updates sent to you. Your truck is a 2022 with only 3,500 miles. I mention that because when your truck is sent an OTA like the ones highlighted below that do not require the vehicle to be inhibited, consent is given to the updates to install the second you turn your truck on. If you do not use the truck (or at least turn the ignition on) when the OTA trigger is created for your truck within the allotted time the update is in your queue, the OTA will expire. It looks like you have been driving your truck a lot more often the past two weeks, but it seems to have been parked most of the time the past two months and possibly longer(I can only see 60 days worth of vehicle history). This would explain why the updates have repeatedly failed to even download the files it needed to install the update.

Again, with the Mongoose, you'll be good to go. However, your truck was getting love from the OTA mothership.

Updates are set to auto and I also added a daily schedule earlier this week. I got the truck early last week, so it sat at a dealership prior to that. They used it as a loaner (~3k miles) and never titled it, so sold it to me as new. The consent makes a lot of sense now as to why my truck wasn't updated. It is good to know that Ford was sending updates. Thank you for looking into that.

I'm in the middle of my updates following the order Mike provided earlier. Is the general consensus to install all available updates?

I can honestly say that the only one that ever caused me a problem was that DSP update. The rest were no problem at all. No reason not to do them all.

I can confirm on a 22 Lariat ER, I installed every update available in FDRS as of last week and saw zero regressions or issues.

It was 95 and humid here today, so I wanted to sit outside the truck in front of a fan.

@Mike G have you posted a step-by-step guide for FDRS updates? Or do you know of anyone that has posted one? I have taken note of many of your tips, just want to make sure I understand the whole process before giving it a shot.

I haven't done that because in general terms the ones already written a few years ago by the ICE F-150 and Mach-E folks have covered everything.

There are small things that are different or unique to the Lightning, one of which is having to close the frunk manually after doing programming and removing the powersupply because it won't respond to button commands until it's latched manually once, and another being the terminal post locations for where the powersupply connects. But there are more similarities than differences.

Finished all my updates last night and had no errors during the process. I did get nervous when the voltage dipped down to 12.1 at one point, but the dual PL2320's did well overall. Thanks MIke for the help with this. Got my PaaK setup and all my other settings stayed through the updates. I will drive it today to see if there are any issues. I'll check FDRS tomorrow for any new updates before my 2 days expires.

I'm now able to remain calm all the way down to 10.5V.....

But thankfully I don't ever have to do that again!

I've seen now multiple mentions of two PL2320s set up like this? I only have one and have done all my updates with just one. Am I at risk of something by not having 2? I'd really hate to buy another cause this all I use it for.

Thank you for documenting your update so well. I consider this option every so often (using the mongoose loaner option) but it would be nice to get by with just one Clore. Do you think if you would have spaced the updates out and allowed the Clore to charge the battery to 100% in between updates this would have worked? Are you able to monitor amp draw and voltage well enough to know you would have needed 2 even starting at 100%? Hope these questions make sense. EDIT: Posted at same time as Matt above, same question roughly!!

FWIW I was able to update fine for about an hour using a single 20A Clore. I would recommend, if you’re doing that, to have it charge up your battery with the truck off in charging mode first until it’s 95% or more complete. Then switch it to PS mode.

And during programming keep an eye on the voltage drop. If it gets into the 10.x volt range, take a break and recharge the battery again before the next set of updates.
