So, for a Ford, 50 degrees is cold? That’s incredible. Other EVs don’t see that sort of degradation until you’re below freezing. And, as I. My post, it got better mileage when it was in the 30s. Same speed. Same climate setting (actually with the climate control off when it did one of the worst legs). So, the “cold” explanation doesn’t hold up. An almost 40% reduction in range, unloaded, just because it’s in the upper 40s to low 50s is pretty sad. And, there are many posts/videos. Of folks out there getting 200 miles in these things at 70 mph. Yes, it’s as aerodynamic as a brick. But, it also has a huge battery compared to my previous EVs. So, I guess it’s useful as long as you never take it out of town.
It’s not just the temperature. I’ve gotten low numbers in 50F and windy/rainy and 2.0-2.2 in 35F where it’s calm.

It’s the aerodynamics. 70mph is where I’ve noticed it gets exponential every mph faster I go. That gets amplified with the weather, significantly more so than any other EV I’ve owned, including the Rivian.

In cold weather I see 10-25% increase consumption on my Teslas. About the same on my Rivian. On the Ford it’s been just a tick higher at 15-30%.

I should note that on my ICE vehicles I notice about the same percentage hit when my state switches to a higher ethanol blend…

The reality is we wouldn’t really care about the hit if we had the appropriate charging infrastructure and/or faster charging speeds

I get 2.9 in the winter with my Mach-E. 2.4 in winter.

On a long trip in October, we were getting 2.7. Hit high headwinds and our average on that leg dropped to 2.0... Semis were slowing to 55. Wind, wind, wind.

Remind me not to talk to you when I need a dose of optimism.
Speaking from experience. Been on forums of various types for 40+ years. The same base set of X things get asked over and over and over, and over. People don't research things, see if the answer exists, they ask it again. Majority then don't transfer their new knowledge to others. Just the way it is.

Ford should give new buyers an EV FAQ sheet before they buy it.
I’m mostly confused about people with the foresight to get so far as to coming to a forum to post, before spending the 10 seconds to search. These things are almost never defective in that they give less range than expected, it’s nearly always some environmental variable. A defect would be seeing a high voltage battery alert at 30% and going into limp mode.

Class action lawsuit? The EPA needs to update their testing methodology or battery design needs to fundamental change. I’m not sure which will happen first.

By nature, human beings are lazy. Many aren't inquisitive. Many don't want to learn, they just want to do. Then you add in social media's "hey, look at me, look at me" which further clogs the information stream. It's easier to type the "has anyone ever" then actually READ.

Read the owner's manual, which is available in the center display, in FordPass, and on Ford.com in PDF and HTML versions? Are you kidding, that's work!

Note - I'm not calling anyone here lazy, or anything else, just commenting on why people ask questions that are answered in multiple easy-to-find places.

It just human nature. It requires effort to overcome that sometimes.

Highway speed cold weather range tests is what we need now that there’s a handful of EV trucks available. Curious if some handle high speed better than others.

Yes they do, my Model 3 does the same.

Yes they do, my Model 3 does the same.
So do my Model Ys. They are just 50% more efficient and charge faster so road trips take 1/2 the time at DC Fast charging stations. But the Lightning IS much more relaxing to drive on road trips due to ride quality and roominess.

I’d be pretty upset if it wasn’t more efficient as all cars are compared to Trucks no matter what the powertrain is
