I was talking about the difficulty of adding retrofit locations for existing trucks in regards to another poster indicating they would only want NACS retrofitted as a fully-integrated thing into their existing truck. My discussion was hypothetical - I doubt that level of retrofit is going to be something Ford supplies. If it was desired, there’s a more options..
1) Inside the bed, the worst option possible.
2) Into the bumper. Expand the trailer pin slot to also accommodate a charge port door as well.
3) Into the tailgate. Flap door next to the tailgate step for a vertical plug in.
As a truck I prefer to back into the charger but Ford may have intentionally placed it up front to accommodate charging with something in tow.
4) The Ford logo is large enough, perhaps a flip up logo with the connector underneath it.
If they did, it would need to be a location not requiring replacement of a whole body panel.
Another possible location might be under the Frunk hood somewhere. But leaving your frunk open with vehicle unattended during charging doesn't seem like the best idea if you have any valuable cargo in there.
I think the real world answer is going to be the adapter for most people. It will be able to reach by parking in the next slot over from the end slot, or pulling up to the chargers from the other side, or just using two slots when the chargers are not busy.
For frequent road trippers, an additional DC extension would solve the problem of reach. But that is likely going to cost another few hundred $.
I would implore A2Z to build a version of their adapter with the extension built-in, but even that is going to be significantly more expensive than just a one piece adapter.
