So for those who haven't updated to FDRS 42.5.10, there's a new noteworthy feature that provides 'dependency clues' for some of the updates. And it's pretty useful info.

Here's an example from a VIN I ran this morning:
FDRS_Feature.jpg

We can see from the note that doing the IPC will unlock other updates, that when performed in sequence will bring the Sync system current (in this case likely all the way to Sync 1270 which is the latest so far).
I noticed that as well and was about to post that along with a problem I’m having hopefully you or @rugedraw
can help?

Serial mean the cluster Serial doesnt match what ford has on their server.

The easiest way to get around the serial number is to PMI the IPC..

Are you aware of the IPC ever being replaced?

PMI will associate the serial with your truck. PMI will also update.

Keep in mind the IPC update is two parts. So make sue to pay attention.

First half is USB

Second is can bus.

Need to do both halves sometimes people get click happy and miss it

For IPC update, on part 2, I thought I saw that CanBus updates can take exceedingly long times. Or is this referring to regular FDRS and will go quickly.

Not on the ipc. It’s a small strategy file. Takes a few min.
The usb file is done via usb because it would take 6 hours via canbus.

For the USB flash drive, am I overthinking it when it comes to read/write speed? Is there a limit on the truck or are there any tangible benefits to getting a more expensive drive with a faster tested read/write?

I use a USB C Sandisk. The main thing is not to name the uSB anything long. I always use Ford Or Sync.

As far as the rest its not important. The Sync 4 input is still mini USB.

The uSB updates are uploaded to gateway from the APIM through the ethernet and then sent out via Ethernet from the gateway so the transfer speed is limited to the initial Usb connection.

Even so the larger updates still get done fairly quickly.

I use a relatively cheap SSD portable drive with a USB dongle. It's significantly faster, both when downloading and then when car-connected-processing the usual 6 gigabyte file cargo load.

I forgot about the transfer to the USB from FDRS>

FDRS does that MUCH faster now. It used to be terrible. It is way better now. Downloads seem to be better also.

I think I have an old SATA SSD, not sure I have a USB dongle for it though. Time to go rummage through my spare parts bin.

If it's comparable, I may just go that route. But I thought I read there are some updates that require a USB, is that still the case?

Yes.

APIM, TCU, Gateway, IPC

TCU, Gateway and IPC are not USB Only but thats how you want to play it. Takes hours otherwise at the canbus speeds.

Break out the USB drive because it's update time!

Do the GWM first, then, if another GWM doesn't show up, do the APIM.

That should do the trick. My '22 is on the APIM rev "-NG" which I know is Sync 1270. The application manifest for the APIM in your list says it's the same "-NG" revision you'll end up with when it's updated.

You can also do the powertrain updates while you're there. In this case with only three modules in that set it shouldn't take more than 10 minutes tops for the powertrain.

I should note that after I did the APIM update to Sync 1270 I did not immediately see the Public Charging app update. It took a little while for that to show up in the apps list...I noticed it was there the next day. So I think it's something that is dynamically updated and populated after the APIM is updated.
@Mike G from reading a few of you post you are manually updating your MY 22 from SYNC Version 4.0.23306 which is update 6.14 to Sync Version 1270 which is update 10.1.1 with the Google Maps Update? Can you tell me what I need to tell my dealership as I do not have the licenses for FDRS, IDS, etc. I have had no updates since 13 September and they nothing is pending or needs an update and this was just a few days ago.

Appreciate it.

From your post, you've already consulted your service advisor, and they likely checked your OTA dashboard and told you there was nothing in process or pending and said there really wasn't anything they could do. And they're not wrong, actually.

If you don't have any outstanding FSAs (like a recall etc.) then you'd likely be paying out of pocket to get a tech to work through your software updates list and bring you current.

You can call the BEV team and ask them to take a look and see if there's something that's keeping you from getting OTAs 800-392-3673 but I'm not sure how much help that would be.

I would not mind paying out of pocket at this point...I honestly wish that was offered! I guess I don't understand how I see yall using FDRS to update your modules but a dealership says there is not update available...

Thanks for taking the time to respond, I am sure you are busy.

For what it would cost at the dealer, you could probably buy everything yourself. Took me about 6 hours to get everything on my 23 updated from 6.8 and could've been worse if the dealer hadn't already done the front censor CSP that updated the IPMA/PSCM. Where are you located in VA? Maybe someone with the required equipment is close to you.
