If you have an OBD dongle and the free CarScanner app, you can quickly determine if it is the battery module (to keep dealer honest).

Here are my readings before I experienced the failure and after:
Ford F-150 Lightning Powertrain Malfunction/ Reduced Power 1738854056894-ps
Ford F-150 Lightning Powertrain Malfunction/ Reduced Power 1738854070464-j7

Note there are values for Voltage variation and Percent variation. I don't know what the cutoff is but if the variation is over 1-2% (mine was 4.32%), I would be concerned.

My % variation was always below 1% until that fateful day last March.

I'm unable to find those values when I scan what's available. Does one need to load a custom file to find that?

Been reading through this for several days. Getting the same Powertrain malfunction code, but no reduced power. Overnight it resets then comes back on again the following day. Truck started this on day 1 after picking new truck up from GA and driving to AL. Local dealers aren’t being much help and no loaners available so I have to wait until I can get another vehicle.

24 ER lariat now with 700 miles. Started at 250 and happens every day. The only problem is it sometimes stays in drive when parked and you have to shut it down for 10 mins then restart. Any ideas or help?
I agree with @The Weatherman, sounds like a bad shifter.

On the main page go to Settings, then Connection Profile. Choose Ford then Mustang Mach-E / F-150 Lightning/ E-Transit EV:

That is great advice, thank you. I will try that and see what my readings are.

Well it seems that I have a pack or module failure like you said. I have a 4.7% variation. Thanks again for the advice, I guess I will need a new battery.

There have been issues reported withe shifter mechanism that will throw that code and cause problems with shifting.
The shifter has been giving issues and not laying down. I agree with you and will schedule a trip to the dealership. Just crazy how it’s started on day 1. Never would have expected that from a new truck.

Next time it throws the code drive to the Ford dealer, do not turn the vehicle off, and have them look at it before the code clears. Your new, under warranty vehicle should not be doing that and it is Ford’s responsibility to repair it. Once they see what trouble code it is throwing you’ll have a better idea of how long it will take to repair.
Agreed. That is the plan because everyday it clears out until it happens again. It seems to only happen if I try to use my worktop and stow the shifter.

So yesterday I experienced the dreaded service soon orange wrench icon. I have 57% power available, and the ford app says powertrain or 4 wheel drive fault. I think I’m looking at new battery modules. Truck is at 52,000 miles.
I moved your post and related responses into the main thread on this issue, please let us know how you make out with the service process.

Welp, you can add me to the spreadsheet! I hopped in this morning to run a quick errand and get a carwash, and was greeted with the yellow wrench on the display and the red ring at the charge port. 2023 XLT build date 12/23, 6,200 miles

I finished my errand with no problems--Then it was off to the carwash. I had visions of the truck locking up in the conveyor tunnel mid-wash and causing the whole place to shut down for the day until Ford could somehow rescue me! In retrospect, I probably shouldn't have tempted fate. But luckily no problem.

When I got home, I immediately made an appointment with my dealer for tomorrow morning. They will send out a "service valet" to pick it up at the house. I'm mentally preparing for anything from a code reset (I know, not likely), to 3 months in the shop followed up by a Lemon Law claim. 🤷‍♂️

Edited to add: I also received my Tesla adapter today too. What are the odds?
(No, I didn't use it yet...so there's no correlation)

Sad to see all these high mileage instances. I was hoping that the modules would be vetted after some point and would be proven immune to this bug. Sadly does not seem to be the case.

Yes I was surprised because I haven’t had a single issue until after 50k. Makes me apprehensive about owning this truck outside of warranty.

Seems to me that since this is a known, well-established issue that at least the warranty's mileage limit should be extended for this issue.

I will talk to ford about having it extended.

Yes, at 63k I thought my battery had proven itself. I’ve done a not insignificant amount of long distance towing/DCFC (probably 10k miles or so), but that should be completely within the normal use case of a truck.

I’m curious to see what the repair costs (for Ford). Depending on the price, it may be a reasonable repair expense for a truck that hasn’t really cost me anything in repairs and very little in maintenance for 63k. I might just be willing to set the funds aside and “self-warranty “ once I’m out of the warranty coverage. One thing that my tech mentioned and I wasn’t aware of, was that updating modules is not covered by the warranty and you have to pay by the hour for them. Ford apparently covers these if they have to rebalance the batteries, so I’ll get everything updated, but he showed me the list of all the out of date ones and I was shocked because I do get OTAs. He said some don’t update OTA.
