I found a new (to me) setting that changes my speed when the truck sees a speed sign. Set it to 5 mph over the speed limit sign and it does just that. I wish it was a percentage since 30 in a 25 is much different than 70 in a 65 zone. Also annoying and requires gas pedal or cruise control (+/-) override when the speed limit on a major road (N.C.) drops from 50 to 30 and then back to 50 within a couple thousand feet and traffic does not change speed. But great for avoiding missed speed limit signs.

Still have to watch it around schools. I am not sure if it does nor does not cognize school speed limit signs and correlates with time of day. Seemed a bit uneven with those when I came across some. The computer is still training me.

A lot of people who have had the truck for while have turned this feature off. Most have found that it will pick up odd signs along the road that it mistakes for speed limit signs and will change speed drastically. It doesn't appear to reference the road information so if it see's a route sign for 85 it will assume that's the new speed limit and accelerate to that speed. Worse it will slow down very quickly if it mistakes a sign on the highway. Ended up being more of a hassle than it was worth personally.

I'm in the switched OFF camp, after a few exhilarating decelerations on I-495

I also turned it off. It reads the signs on the service roads while you’re on a freeway. It also uses a database that has errors. There’s a street in my city with a 30 MPH speed limit and the truck thinks it’s 70!

Should we be using any form of speed assist automation or cruise control in a school zone? ;)

I like how the gauge cluster reacts when this feature is on, and cruise control is not currently enabled. It puts a hash mark on the gauge where the speed limit is dynamically. I wish i could get it to do that all the time.

I also wish there was a way to set a dead band where the system wouldn't adjust the speed, as it currently is it just goes directly to that +- value you set. It might also help with the incorrect speeds if there was a way to set it to be more leisurely with its speed adjustments. I find it very aggressive adjusting to a 5mph change in 1/2 a second or less.

Oh yea, that said, I also have the feature off.

CC has saved my bacon several times I'm fully engaged in driving and looking for kiddies, but I set it at 20 mph, saves me with my lead footed tendencies, of course we should always be on the ready to mash that brake should a kiddie dart into traffic. I travel through several RI towns that are employing speeding citation cameras in school zones.

Another vote for not using the "intelligent" sign reader. Our vehicle has misread many signs as shown by the little speed limit indicator on the panel.

If I feel the truck slow down suddenly I simply press the gas pedal and then hit the + button to set a new cruise speed. Not much of a problem since it seems to be reasonably accurate so far.

Enjoy your virginity! ;)

Until this feature pisses you off and/or ruins your day with sudden unintended braking in traffic or unintended acceleration from a 30 mph sign recognized as 80 mph, I have a suggestion that works well when OPD is off. Rest your left thumb on or near the CANCEL/RESUME button. When–not if–the truck suddenly accelerates or decelerates, use that button. It doesn't work well if you CANCEL into one pedal drive because it will buck when you dump it unless your foot is ready to adjust the accelerator.

Then, "when it is safe to do so" (borrowed from the center screen), you'll probably be ready to turn speed sign recognition off. I remain genuinely surprised that liability attorneys haven't convinced Ford that this problem warrants an immediate software fix or fleetwide deactivation until they can fix it.

Turned it off in my truck on day one since I didn't trust it (as a techie). Turned out to be the correct choice after reading others' experiences with it.

I can be exciting. How do you turn it off? I had a 2016 Platinum and I was driving the speed limit in the inside lane of a 4-lane highway, with adaptive cruise control. I came up on a bright chrome tanker truck with the sun behind me. My truck did its best imitation of a startled deer and applied full brakes! Fortunately, no one piled into me. That doesn’t seem to happen with my Lightning, but the same mad scientists probably designed both systems.

I use it on my truck all the time. Yeah, there's a few times that it will read signs wrong, and there's a spot on my way home where it jumps from 40 to 50 even though there isn't a sign there at all, but I can catch those well enough and adjust them. To me at least it's more convenient than it is annoying.
