Charging in Cold Weather Outside

I just got a 2024 Ford Lightning Lariat and was charging it in 25 Deg F and it was charging at 9.1 KW and was charging for just about 7hrs and the energy added is 26.2KWh. If I caculate it 9.2KW X 7Hr is 64.4KWh. I know there is some losses but over 50%? Do I have a issue? Does anyone else see this? I added a picture of my FordPass charging page and my Charge Point current session of this.

Yeah that’s quite a disparity! I feel like that’s not accurate. I do know the app sometimes at least on my truck is off on how much energy was added. I have emporia chargers and they seem to be rock solid on how much energy was delivered.

The 24 doesnt do 80 amp. It maxes out 48 (11.5kwh)

Those numbers in the Ford Pass App are known to be incorrect more than not.

The Fordpass active charging report can be screwed up if you adjust any factors after connecting to the EVSE.

I like to have my goal SOC ie 80, 85, 90, 95, 100% established on the Fordpass or trucks home location based charging scheme before plugging in.

Once factors are firm, plug in and do not tinker with the Fordpass SOC slider, start or stop controls for the charging session, I've done so in the past and got corrupted values on that screen.

After your charging session is complete, unplug the truck for 30 seconds, let the truck close the statistical record, generate a report to the Charging History section on Fordpass

If you're in extreme climate condition hot or cold plug in for addition shore power based conditioning as the truck might call for overnight.

After you follow this routine, your EVSE statistics should be in line with what the instantaneous session report is showing as well as the after action report.

In extremely cold conditions with a low SOC and very cold battery, you may find energy input vs.. energy stored on the HVB different by as much as 25%, in milder conditions this loss might only be 8 to 10%

I charge in the garage which is between 45 and 55 degrees at around 40 amps with a ChargePoint and what you are seeing falls fairly close in line to mine. Your cost is about 4 times higher though. I have read charging past 80% seems to take more time, and that also seems to coincide with some of my charging numbers.

Do you have any preferred charging times set? I believe time on charger in the app is how long the truck has been plugged in, not how long it has actually been charging. If you have no preferred charge times set, then that would be an accurate readout.

Charging from 90% to 100% on my Tesla that last 2% takes over an hour. I’ve never waited it out to 100% when prepping for a trip. I charge to 80% the night before and then push to 100% morning of when I wake up. Not sure about the Lightning yet, will find out eventually.

What was your SoC when you plugged it in? From that, you should be able to verify which is correct.

The last 1% or 2% going to 100% will take longer than normal as it balances the cells, but everything else will be normal speed.

I think he’s questioning the KwH difference being reported by FordPass vs his EVSE, not the time.

To a point around 95% or so it starts slowing down if you are giving to all the amps
