Can someone help me understand how the truck with the bigger battery pack (with more weight) will be more efficient than the smaller battery pack truck?

Smoke and mirrors to try get people to hold off and wait on an EV Truck purchase?
Ford had a similar difference with the ERs being more efficient (on paper) than the initial PROs. It came down to headed seats being standard on the ER trims. Could be something like that, or tires or some other factor.

However I believe in real world numbers, the pro is actually more efficient.

It is probably just a rounding issue, no big conspiracy. 500 and 350 are nice even numbers for presentation. maybe its 490 and 362.

Agreed - unless you are driving in a situation where the heated seat lets you keep the cabin heat off. Very situational.

All of these numbers are on paper though. My real world lifetime average is ~1.8mi/kWhr., way below the rated range. That's what happens in the winter.

Definitely interesting enough to see what pans out and where I will be using my Lightning by fourth quarter 2024, so I put the $100 down. Not saying I will order and not saying that I won’t.

Not sure we have enough data to and/or there are too many variables. Here in the SW, I've been getting 2.75 for my daily commute, 28 miles each way, 500ft elevation drop between home and work, 2/3 city (avg 50mph) and 1/3 freeway (avg 65 mph). Temps between mid 30's and 80. We hit 90 next week.

Oops! EDIT: I have a Lariat ER

I feel like Ram is far enough along that there won't be any crazy reduction to these stated numbers. If they were shooting for a 2026 release and missed their stats (range, 0-60, etc.), there would be some level of understanding. If the truck is coming out in a year, any material discrepancy is essentially false advertising.

The big question remains price, which I think wisely will be held back until closer to release. Battery prices are coming down, who knows how that will impact MSRP in six months compared to if they announced today.

Tesla used to advertise their prices in a shady manner, where they were inclusive of rebate discounts. Until I see a MSRP and official order form, I have some skepticism these same shenanigans may be at play.

Doesn't their range include the onboard engine to assist battery?
you mean the “range extender”? There was no mention of it that I saw.

This is an incredibly small point, but I can't believe that a $100K+ truck is going to have a manually adjustable steering wheel.

What does this forum think about the new REV? Specifically that they released some of the specs today. In the release-

1.) 350 or 500 mile range from 168 or 229KWH battery packs
2.) 14K lbs of towing and 2700lbs of payload max
3.) 350KW fast charging

There is more, but those are some of the highlights. You can read more here-

https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a43496770/2025-ram-1500-rev-electric-pickup-specs-details/

If they can deliver these kinds of specs for less than a zillion bucks I could see this as an interesting truck.

Thoughts?

It's the version they introduced at the end with a "stay tuned someday in the future we'll talk about it". They didn't actually say the words range extender, though. They probably haven't quite nailed it down yet.

I'm definitely intrigued. The 350 mile version would be plenty for me. Obviously it all comes down to price like you said. I'll be keeping an eye out.
