I wanted to use it, but to my surprise, the app icon is gone, and I’m not able to launch it.
Don't want to insult you, but there has been at least one person report it missing because it wasn't here anymore:

This is the most recently used apps bar and my Nav frequently disappears from here. I have to choose it again from the Apps screen (Home icon at the top):

Sorry if you know this already but believe me, it has happened.

Even when I say “navigate home,” Alexa says the app is still loading and to try later.
That happens to me if I ask within 1 minute of booting up sometimes. That voice is Ford Assistant, not Alexa.

It used to work before, but after getting my truck back from the dealer in April, I noticed the navigation was missing. They couldn’t figure out why it’s gone and told me to wait for the next software update that might fix it.

I don’t use it too often, but it would still be nice to have it just in case. I thought I’d wait for the next update, but despite it being more than 90 days since the last update, I’m still waiting.

Just to be completely clear, my post was about Android Auto new functionality with the Lightning, and not the Ford Nav. Also to be clear, AA starts automatically when I turn the truck on. On the occasions where it fails to connect by Bluetooth, I just plug my Android phone in if I want to use it.

It's really not there...

Yes, it's Ford Assistant, sorry for mixing it up with Alexa. And it's not related to booting, it's doing any time when you ask it.

That’s definitely not right. If you can, find another dealer or escalate to @Ford Motor Company. There was at one time a BEV team you could open a case with.

Did you try a Sync reset?

Could you review the work order from this service, what did they do to the truck at that time, possibly an update was corrupted and caused this issue.
They replaced the APIM because it was the only solution to a previous software issue where the Control screen was completely missing from the menu. That issue arose when they installed the software for the heated steering wheel, which had originally been left out due to the chip shortage when the truck was built two years ago. There was a recall where Ford has offered a free installation. So, yes, it’s probably a chain of events that led to this situation. I can’t say for sure whether it’s due to the way Ford manages software updates or if the dealer did something that caused additional issues. I’ve been to this dealer at least 10 times over the past ~15 months, mostly for these software problems, and honestly, I’m getting tired of going back since they rarely seem able to fix everything.

Most likely, I’ll need to try another dealer. It’s just that this one is relatively close to my house, which makes it convenient when I have to leave my truck there for 'investigation.' That said, they never offer me a replacement vehicle — only an Uber — which I find a bit strange, considering the truck cost over $100K. Maybe I’m just naïve for thinking that would be standard.

Sync reset? No, I haven’t tried that. I figured they would handle it if it was necessary. Although, now that you mention it, I’m pretty sure they didn’t do it last time I was there since all my settings stayed exactly the same — nothing had to be reconfigured.

AA/Google maps will now precondition battery for fast charging if you get the 10.x OTA
I agree with your statement here but that IF seems to be huge at this time. I haven't received any updates in months. I've read about this update thanks to this forum but haven't seen it come through...

They screwed up the reprogramming of the replacement hardware, bring it back insist it be fixed properly, demonstrate on another Lightning on the lot how the software UI should look on the APPS screen.

Some things to try before taking to dealer.
1. Do a Sync reset. Hold steering wheel Volume + and right arrow until it reboots. These are the two outer buttons on the steering wheel controls.
Ford F-150 Lightning Connected Built-in Navigation Renewal 1733491886568-cu

2. Disconnect battery negative for about a minute. 10mm wrench.
3. If you have an OBD adapter and Forscan, go to the wrench icon and do an APIM module reset.

Just saw this post too. So they replaced the APIM. Thats a red flag. I agree with @TaxmanHog that they may have screwed that up. Also Ford makes two versions of the Sync 4 APIM. One has built-in navigation, the other does not. You can see this if you Google “sync 4 non-nav”.
Wonder if they ordered/installed the wrong one? The nav unit has extra connections for an antenna.

Thanks, @bmwhitetx ! Both of your suggestions are super helpful.

As for the APIM, it’s very possible they installed the wrong one, just like you mentioned. If that’s the case, it’s a pretty big mistake, especially since my trim is Platinum, and it definitely has navigation.

Someone with access to FDRS checked my truck and found that the APIM (Sync) needs to be updated for the next gateway update to show up. So it really seems like the issue must be with the replaced APIM.

Do you think the reset process will make the APIM start auto-updating, assuming it’s the correct hardware version? Or is this something only the dealer can handle?

When you disconnect the negative battery terminal for a few minutes that should restart all the modules in the truck...... including the APIM.

I don't think just restarting the APIM will automatically trigger an OTA update. Folks have tried that in the past. Ford sends out OTA updates on a schedule/pattern no one knows.

But doing GWM updates or TCU resets have helped others. So hard to say. But I would definitely try the reset, nothing to lose really at this point and lots to gain possibly.

There's a chance FORScan could've fixed that issue. Someone else had a similar issue after a dealer update and changing the value to disabled and back brought back the Controls tab. It's not Ford sanctioned so it's not something the dealer would try though.

I did check the FDRS history for @Lorincz and the tech who did the install of the APIM back in November had a failed PMI process in FDRS and just gave him the truck back without saying anything. Maybe they didn't notice it said the procedure was "unsuccessful" at the end of the process? Dunno. But at least there's something that can be discussed with the service advisor now that there's evidence of shenanigans.
