I'm trying to gauge if anyone can provide input regarding what they think the better deal would be. I intend to keep the truck for 5+ years even if newer better models come out. I'm leaning toward truck 1 because it isn't in a snow state and it's closer to me physically. Truck 2 is way further up north in a heavy snow state. Is there any difference In reliability / warranty issues from 2022-2023? Other than the fact that I'd have an extra year of warranty on the 2023 can anyone try to offer guidance? Would greatly appreciate. Thank you.

Truck 1 2022 lariat extended range
Price: 39k out the door
Mileage: high 20k
Issues: bought back by Ford under lemon law, OASIS report states entire battery AND module replaced. Also reports minor damage on carfax which seems like a non issue as car looks immaculate

Truck 2 2023 lariat extended range
Price: 40k
Mileage: low 20k
Issues: bought back by Ford, battery replaced.

Truck 3 2022 lariat std range
Price: 39k
Mileage: low 10s
Issues: really none. Bought back by Ford because customer complained of static during phone calls. Lol.

Hi Cl_l

I would say truck 2 as the it will have a better warranty. Stay away from truck 3 as it's the standard range it's not worth the same price as the ER. Also what equipment packages do each have? I would also ask them if your getting any type of home charger or mobile charger with the purchase? And tine left on the Blue Cruise if it came with the 3 year package.

I also assume your buying these directly from a Ford dealership? Otherwise I would stear clear assuming your buying from an authorized ford dealer I recommend asking for the oasis report as this is interal documentation that ford keeps. The truck might currently be in a snow state but originally it could have been in Alabama and then now the snow state dealership bought it at auction to resale to the public. Only certain ford dealerships are allowed to sell Ford buy back trucks. Also they will have to provide you a 1 year 12,000 mile warranty if the manufacturer warranty is less then 1 year or 12000 miles left basically what ever is greater.

The other minimal caveat not all insurance companies will insure a 'branded title ' vehicle also banks are not always willing to loan on them either.

With all that said I have owned several salvaged title and branded title vehicles over the last 10 years and had no problems. But keep in mind resale will be less then market rate too.

Feel free to DM with any direct questions

The 2022 will have a few features that were removed from the 2023 but those may not be important to you (on-board scales, smart hitch, partitioned storage under rear seat, possible heated steering wheel).

Truck 1 will be out of B2B warranty sooner especially that it has higher mileage than truck 2 and a year older like you mention. You could always get a Granger extended warranty.

Truck 3: No. I would go with ER all day long over SR if the price is the same and mileage not terribly different. Also truck 3 (the 510A SR) does not come with a lot of features that the ER (511A) has:

They could have added in Co-Pilot, Tow Tech, and storage as options, but not the others. Order Guide.

Is there a website for RAVs? I know Ford has an office in Dearborn that manages the buybacks but is there a listing of them somewhere?

Is there a warranty I could buy if I'm in Florida? It seems granger doesn't service Florida. If I wanted to extend it to match the battery which plan would I purchase? I don't understand the terminology. I'm seeing from zeigler at 36 from in service date at 2k. Wouldn't that be the default coverage? Or does that mean starting from when factory warranty expires? I appreciate your help

The Ford ESP plans (Granger, Zeigler, Flood) start on the original in-service date. So you would need to buy an 8-year, 100K to match the battery warranty end date.

There are a couple of states like Fla that don't allow warranty plans to be bought out of state.

I suggest going to the Granger thread (they are a sponsor) and contacting them. There are ways around the Fla issue if you have relatives not in Fla.

go with option 1 because there is literally no difference between a 22/23 and there might be one less option on a 23 because it was deleted because of a covid chip storage. Once you purchase your truck see how much a granger warranty is if you care about the warranty.

It sounds like you have a lot of great advise here which should help considerably with your decision. But, if it were me, I would keep looking since it may be best to look for a model with a fully clean service history to avoid the higher chances of having ongoing headaches and unexpected expenses. Just my 2 cents worth. Obviously, I do not know your exact circumstances, and it is always nice to find a great deal on a high end Lightning, since they are awesomely fun to drive.

If you have an out of state address you can use then you can buy an ESP from Granger. It doesn’t need to be a property you own. Example as a Floridian I have my vehicles registered in Florida. But I have relatives who have a house in NC that I “take my RV to on vacation”. I can use that address.

Once you have the warranty you can use it at any Ford Dealership in any State, including Florida.

I would lean towards the 22 ER on the unproven theory that Ford put extra effort into the manufacture of this debut edition of the F150 Lightning.

Truck 1 and truck 2 are functionally the same. Buy the one in the color you like best.

I'm partial to '22s because they don't have any feature deletes. The dealership should be able to provide a window sticker to see exactly what the differences are.

I wouldn't buy one of these again. I for sure wouldn't buy one that's been bought back...
Get a 2022 w/ a 5.0 and a regular length bed if you actually need a truck or live anywhere thats cold.

That said... if you have to buy one of those 3.... Pick number 2. I have a 2022, and there's no way that they put extra effort into building a quality product that year. If they did, then god help those with a 2023.

2023 Lightnings - SR XLT, ER XLT, ER Lariat - 2024
The 2nd for reasons listed, if from a dealer ask for extended warranty at cost (match Granger). If they want the sale they will.

The 23s have theoretically a year of bug fixes from 1st run learnings - rear light bar - etc. I’d ask what warranty is on new pack - 8 years from replacement?

Also get the led insurance - so far on our 23 Lariat replaced rear light bar, both running boards (entire to fix light…) and mirror curtesy lights.
