Very similar to my first car 27 years ago

a Nissan p/u 4 banger single cab/rwd.

this truck would be great possibly for that or a service industry truck like a termite company that bust needs bed space and a regular cab for one technician.

What market is this for?
Well, we all know the Lightning is useless because it can't tow 10,000lbs for 600 miles when its 0F outside.

But I would assume Slate is targeting markets / people that don't haul 10000lbs or stacks of drywall every single day.

A LOT of people only see a vehicle as means of transportation from point A to point B, for them this is perfect.

Their main competitors aren't exactly F250 duallies, this is more of an aussie ute or an euro VW Caddy (the pickup, not van) than a "truck".

This is clearly aimed at the Maverick's market and, while it would excel at the type of jobs @Oafy44 pointed out above, I still think it would sell if they can keep the target price. It does look like a fun truck. We'll see.

Part of me actually loves the idea of crank windows but I can't help to think it's actually costing them more to offer them.

Also: Spec-wise, EVs like this would be great for new drivers. 0-60 in 8 seconds, safe but compact, etc.

Yes, a small car. Honda civic can tow more. In any case, I find it unlikely this will hit market as advertised, just meeting basic safety regulations will be a challenge.

The Ford maverick base is already a much better option for a do it all truck like thing.

Without 4wd though is a non starter for me.

Both of which are way more capable and also not used in the usa/canada because they're not capable of meeting mass market needs.

I like it. One nitpick. The linked article says $20K but that price is with Federal Incentive (which will likely be gone in 26Q4). So really starting price is $27,500. That’s roughly the same as a 2025 Maverick XL Hybrid.

Even though my Pro is a lot more bang for the money, this would be a very attractive alternative for someone like me. We have a 600 mile range ICE which we already take on super long trips. Most of my driving with my Pro does not exceed 15 mile radius.

Even though I am not sure what the ownership of this truck in real life would be like, it gives me the feeling that is closer to my old Frontier with manual windows. I never worried about much driving or parking that thing anywhere. Parts were affordable and most issues did not require a dealer visit. $2K for a tail light of my Pro may be normal now but still sounds ridiculous to me. With current rate of inflation, if this thing can make people feel more comfortable about cost of ownership (Purchase, Maintenance, Insurance, ....) it is a welcome change to the current trend of paying more to get from A to B every year with increased dependency to the manufacturers and dealers. Any product with the right to repair state of mind is high on my priority.

Reserved.
I want a boring utilitarian truck.
There are a couple of things I'd have done differently.
If the price really is <$20k for the base, and if the economy finds a way to recover, I may get the SUV upgrade for the spawn and a base truck for myself.
