LOL, pearl clutching, not pear clutching....So it’s just more pear clutching on his part.
I watched it hoping to see a different perspective but it's basically garbage hit piece journalism. I literally had to turn it off because it was such a whiny garbage video. It’s like I don’t own the same truck as him. Him saying you need to use the app to charge the car and all his charging issues? Besides the occasional anxiety about whether EA will be working I have almost none. I just plug in at home, chargepoint at work, or EA/EVGO if traveling, and if just charges.
Seriously, I don’t get it.
Yes a shocking display of click bait if ever I saw one.I watched this video just a few moments ago.
1) The app is a pain at times, though it seems to be getting better.
2) He complains about charging. Well, he owned an EV before so he should have some idea of the logistical issues of it. I have never owned one before but have had good and bad experiences when on the few longer trips I've needed.
3) He is shocked, SHOCKED I SAY, that he LOST range in an EV going uphill to the mountains, AND that he lost more range when he left said EV outside in the cold. Who would have thunk it?
4) He is shocked, SHOCKED I SAY, to realize that he has to plan out charging stops. No freaking way! Sort of like needing to fuel up an ICE vehicle. That being said, I do agree that it is a pain in the backside to find some these tucked away chargers.
Makes me remember what my Drill Instructors told us....Proper Prior Planning Prevents Piss Poor Performance.
HEY JOE!!! I've watched your XLT video SEVERAL times. I'm waiting for a SR XLT so I've lived vicariously through seeing yours. As soon as I saw your avatar and that you were from Staten Island I looked to see what you were driving. I've been waiting to see if you post any new videos. I hope you do. Love your truck. I (HOPE) to get mine someday (stuck in transit)As a rule of thumb, negative videos have a better chance of going viral than positive ones.
He's done this before with a negative video about towing, but unlike channels like TFLTruck or State of Charge who use more objective testing methods, he seems to just shoot for click bait.
I'm going to shoot some new videos for two of my YouTube channels from the perspective of a real owner.
Although we vent some of our frustrations about quirks on these forums, I can say that this truck is the best vehicle I've ever owned, and by a wide margin.
Glad you liked it.HEY JOE!!! I've watched your XLT video SEVERAL times. I'm waiting for a SR XLT so I've lived vicariously through seeing yours. Unless I'm still doing it wrong, the frustrating thing for me is the inability to create scheduled departures. The issue is less about making sure the truck doesn't start charging until 9pm, for example, and more about the fact that it will then charge to the set point regardless of when I'm leaving. In other EVs I set it up to charge between 9pm and to end charging before 8am the next morning. I also tell it I'm leaving for work at 7:30am (and that I want 100% charge) and it'll start charging somewhere around 1am and finish at 7:29...or whatever the case may be. The F150L, in contrast, will charge itself to 100% and sit there from 1am until 7:30am when I finally leave.I've found that the preconditioning/departure schedule can cause the truck to ignore the scheduled charge time especially if the SOC is low enough that the truck thinks it won't reach desired target SOC in time, in this situation the truck will begin charging immediately.
I tinkered with my time frames after noticing this phenomena, got it tuned just right now, BUT I'm not in a TOU service area, so I have the luxury of placing the charge time frame where needed, which could be an issue for folks with narrow time frames for inexpensive energy
Yup the 100% setting is a definite bug, if your drive cycle can tolerate 95%, then increment the start time to a point later in the evening each day to get it closer to the goal of finishing charging just in time for preconditioning to kick in and prepare for the drive. The F150L, in contrast, will charge itself to 100% and sit there from 1am until 7:30am when I finally leave.
Yet you have a Lightning and not a Tesla truck....oh the ironyMeanwhile our Model Y software and its over the air updates just continue to show me why they will be dominating the EV space for a long time.
His problem is he thinks Ford is like Tesla, and it's not. He's not wrong on a lot of things, with exceptions to him buying a cheap extension cord and not understanding that the app is not needed to charge. But until Ford wakes up and listens to it's consumers, it's best to plan out your trip using ABRP and Plugshare.
He is right about the app. It is ruining a great product. Of course, FordPass has been terrible since it launched about 7 years ago, so I wouldn't expect it to improve anytime soon. Same with the charging network and how it interfaces with the navigation. He keeps thinking it should act like Tesla, and it really should, but they have a closed system.
Thanks for the info on ABRP. I had not heard of or used that one until now. I has a great algorithm!Just pretend it's a big R/C car and it makes sense. Load, hills, and cold drains battery.
