So I guess “reduced charging speed” is the new EV euphemism for “overheating”. The ”charge port damage” part indicates that this isn’t a bad temp sensor.

Given the currents involved, this is a fairly dangerous problem. Once the stuff that is supposed to keep the two hot wires insulated from each other starts to melt, things go south pretty quickly. Fortunately there are temp sensors in the Tesla handle, but apparently it is still possible for the combination to get hot enough to melt something in the charge port.

I would not advise doing the Tesla wet rag trick on this adapter.

Ford needs to tell us more about what the issue, from the limited information they have announced I think that it should be a recall. It isn’t going to help as far as getting the Tesla community to accept non-Teslas at their chargers.

I ordered at the end of the day on 2/29/24, so I still haven't gotten my adapter. My latest status still says October 2024. I wonder if the bad batch business is going to push us Johnny Come Latelys further into the future?

What were the order numbers for each of your original adapters?
Were they received at the same or similar time frame?
FAE:90004329 (assumed manufactured 27 May 2024 based on serial number)
FAE:90006443 (assumed manufactured 30 May 2024 based on serial number)

Received June timeframe with a week between deliveries.

I haven't received mine yet but my A2Z adapter has served me well at least a dozen times this summer. Ford says that my adapter will ship this month... hopefully they will ship the new and improved version. I will keep both until I know the Ford adapter is working the way it should.

There's a poll on the Mach-E forum. Not a ton of votes but all the recalled ones have a delivery of June (19 votes) or May (1 vote). There weren't any adapters shipped in May so clearly some bad data.
https://www.macheforum.com/site/thr...ll-what-month-deliveries-were-recalled.39508/
Also another post over there from a member who says he talked to Ford and it was one batch.
My shipping confirmation was also June 13, 2024 (Ordered for my Mach-E that I have since traded for my Lightning. Order #FAE 90005401)

This is practically just like my situation. Same-same down to the week.

I got one email from Ford the other day, but I own two adapters.

Since they didn't say which one they were talking about, and I got both of them within a week of each other somewhere in the June-July timeframe, I can only hope they will identify which one of these they are interested in me returning:
Ford F-150 Lightning Tesla NACS Adapter Recall / Replacement Notice (10/24/24) GF2241480003E5
Ford F-150 Lightning Tesla NACS Adapter Recall / Replacement Notice (10/24/24) GF224151000638

EDIT: according to the decoder ring info @TaxmanHog posted, the adapter on the left was made on the 27th of May and the one on the right was made on the 30th of May.

It would be helpful if Ford published a serial number list of affected units. How are we supposed to know if we should stop using the one we got?

My shipping confirmation was also June 13, 2024 (Ordered for my Mach-E that I have since traded for my Lightning. Order #FAE 90005401)

On the Mach-E forum poll, June seems to be the month with the most votes for who received the letter and which month their adapter arrived. Although I think the question should have asked when it shipped rather than arrived.
.....
As already posted I have NOT received the email. Mine was #1568 and it was shipped on June 7th

I'm taking Ford's word on this. Those of us who got a bad one have been notified. If I had not received a notification, I'd assume mine is ok. And I assume Ford will start shipping good ones starting 24 October. They will pay for us to ship the bad one back. As for buying one on the black market (and possibly getting a bad one), if I need a second one for some reason, I'll buy that directly from Ford.
