I don’t see how an update could be approved for dealer install without being approved for OTA (unless it didn’t work over the air for some reason). If the update is not safe then it is not safe whether it comes from a dealer or over the air.
I guess I just have a bad feeling about this, it seems like every truck has a different combination of software. The plus of buying a mass-market product is that there are millions of people with an identical product so you really can form a good idea of how well it will work and what situations to avoid. If every truck is basically running hand built software then I could easily have the only truck where Version 23.1 of one module conflicts with version 15.3 of another and the brakes stop working if I turn on Sirius XM.
