I've got an interesting situation where I try not to charge at home because electric rates are very high here and I can charge for free at work. I've started plugging in my truck at home so I can precondition in the morning but I don't want it to charge...so I immediately tell it to stop after plugging in, which it does...until it doesn't. In the last few days when I've done this I noticed at some point it reset itself and started charging. Anyone had this issue?

Maybe set up a charging time window that would exclude your normal precondition time? Just a guess

What charger do you have at home?

Under saved locations make sure charge when plugged in is off.

This happened to me after several different software updates.

Truck ignored my set charging limit and continued to charge to 100%.

I had to delete the Home location and then set it up all over again. It's back to working now.

The same thing has happened with my Mach-E so I know it's to do with an update janking up the settings.

It's kinda like one of those expected things now...like the first time you go for a drive after you've done programming and you get the message that backup brake assist is not available (or whatever)...and then it's fine after driving for 5 minutes.

Harmless shenanigans.

When I set up my home location, it asked me what power company I had and what plan I was on so that it could automatically avoid charging at peak times. It's only been a few days so far, but it seems to be adhering to that schedule so far.

I have the FCSP. I'll have to look into the locations settings. I haven't set up any locations. That might be the bandaid solution but it's kind of silly that when I tell it to stop charging it just starts charging again at some point without any prompting.

Set you home charge level limit to 10%. As long as the truck is above that, it will not charge, but preconditioning will work.

Workaround provided by folks on the Mach-E forum.

Correct workaround. If you stop charging by hitting the button in the app, that doesn't say "never charge". It will resume during the night UNLESS it's at the limit you set, or above it.

The logical outcome of a STOP CHARGING button is "stop charging until the truck is unplugged". At the very least, stop charging until another planned input occurs (such as a preferred charge time). Starting to charge again with no external input other than the clock striking midnight is terrible UX design.

A good solution, set up a Home location, configure the required charge level below the value you routinely arrive at home with, knowing you primarily charge at EA and work, also define a time frame that's actually while your away from the home location, these settings should prevent automatic charging as a rule, but in the event you need a boost, hit the charge to a 100% and manually stop as needed.

First, you're applying logic. Big mistake.

Second, the manual tells you how to setup a home location to charge as you wish it to. Don't do that, and it doesn't work the way you expect.

Finally, who said anything about midnight? It's most likely a non-specific time during the early morning hours. Again, stop applying logic. ;)

Pretty sure that charge level limit can't be set below 50%. Same logic applies though.

This is what my electric company does, working with Ford, to stop me charging during periods of tight supply (I signed up for $100 rebate a year). They lower the charge limit to 50%, then set it back to what it was.

You’re correct, sorry for the error. Chances are, if you’re below 50, you’ll want to charge anyway!

If your commute isn't long, and your electricity rates are high, it might not be worth it to precondition anyway. Is the slight increase in range worth the cost that preconditioning comes with? Unless it's more about the comfort and convenience, in which case I'll shut up.
