I think it is relevant in that ford is obviously anticipating dogs being in some F150s.

Prob the same thing but I noticed when I’m using the pro power it turns off the default timer and I turn the lights and air off. Didn’t test for dog mode to see if air stays on.

UPDATED DIY DOG MODE INSTRUCTIONS

I’m posting revised Dog Mode instructions based on input from a number of you. Bottom line, these new instructions (a) allow you to leave the Remote in the car (if you want to) AND (b) assure that the doors are locked!
  • AC / Heat On: Be sure it’s set to “Auto” and to, say, 73 degrees.
  • Truck On: Leave the Truck Running.
  • Lights to Off: Turn the dial to the left until it’s “off”.
  • “Power Down” Timer Off: Turn Off the 30 second “Vehicle Power Down Timer”: Note, if you shut the truck off by mistake during this process, you MUST repeat this step. This step is required every time.
    • Truck Image
    • “Settings”
    • “Vehicle”
    • Turn off first setting, “Vehicle Power Down” – This must be manually toggled to “Off” EVERY time (because when the car is shut off, this immediately “resets” to “Timer On”.)
  • Manual Paper Sign: I put a “Dog Mode” sign over the display.
  • Open Door: Dash will say, “Truck is Running.” Ignore or press “OK”.
  • Exit: You can take the Remote OR you can leave the Remote.
  • Lock Truck: Lock the truck by simultaneously pressing the “9-0” and “7-8” buttons on the “Keyless Entry Keypad” (on the door jam.) Confirm truck is locked by confirming the traditional door lock “knobs” are down after closing all doors. If the truck double chirps, it is NOT locked.
  • Confirm Running: Confirm the truck is still running. (The dashboard should look like it does when you are driving.)

If you follow the instructsions I typed up, it works perfectly. I did it again yesterday. I did set a 30 minute timer on my phone and I left the grocery store just to make sure the 150 didn't power off after 30 minutes. It was still running. I'll be happy when Ford releases dog mode; it's a pain to step through my instructions each time!!

You can just leave the truck running, BUT, you have to turn off the 30 minute count down timer EVERY time. It won't stay off just by setting it once.

My checklist before leaving them to run in a store real quick:

Lights off
Power down timer off
Interior Motion sensors off
Fold in mirrors
Lock the doors

Hasn't really failed yet. Only leave them for 15-30 min if I do. I try to still avoid leaving them on very hot days, because some Karen will break my windows to 'save' them because she can't hear the truck running.

Item 3 probably isn't needed since the vehicle is on. I just do it out of habit because I got burned by it when I left the truck off while charging on a cool day, came out to some scared doggies and the alarm going off.

It’s more complicated than that. I posted detailed step-by-step instructions back in June 2022.

I just leave my truck running when I put it wife mode, so she can stay safe and play the stereo etc.. dog mode shouldn't be any different,

Like I said before, if this had the Tesla architecture for the battery/charging and OS and App I would buy another one, otherwise this might be my first and last Ford PU.

Dog mode should be a little different. It should disable the interior window, door lock, maybe heated seat switches, and display something on the screen.

Also, dog mode or not, we should be able to check the climate control status (running or not) and interior temperature via the app at any time, in my opinion. With the timestamp of last update, so we can verify if the information is current. It's disappointing when the software is missing such obvious features.

I've stopped waiting for Dog Mode. I've had the truck for over 2.5 years and I -- and others -- have told Ford we want Dog Mode. But now I believe it's never coming. But here is a simple work around:
  1. AC / Heat On: Be sure AC is set to “Auto” and to, say, 73 degrees.
  2. Truck On: Leave the Truck Running.
  3. Lights to Off: Turn the dial to the left until it’s “off”.
  4. Close Mirrors: This is optional.
  5. “Power Down” Timer Off: Turn Off the 30 second “Vehicle Power Down Timer”: Note, if you shut the truck off during this process, you MUST repeat this step. This step is required EVERY time you start the truck.
    1. “Settings”
    2. “Vehicle”
    3. Turn off the first setting, “Vehicle Power Down” – This must be manually toggled to “Off” EVERY time (because when the car is shut off, this immediately “resets” to “Timer On”.)
  6. Manual Cardboard Sign: I put a cardboard “Dog Mode” sign over the display with my phone number. And I’ve pasted these instructions to the back of the sign.
  7. Open Door: Dash will say, “Truck is Running.” Ignore or press “OK”.
  8. Exit: You can take the Remote OR you can leave the Remote in truck.
  9. Lock Truck: Lock the truck by simultaneously pressing the “9-0” and “7-8” buttons on the “Keyless Entry Keypad” (on the door jam.) Confirm truck is locked by confirming the traditional door lock “knobs” are down after closing all doors. If the truck double chirps, it is NOT locked.
  10. Confirm Running: Confirm the truck is still running. (The dashboard should look like it does when you are driving.)
I've had to leave my dog (a 90 lb Fox Red Lab) in the truck for as many as four hours, usually if I'm making a stop between Boston and Maine. He loves the Lightning and doesn't seem to mind.

I just leave truck on. Go to Vehicle button, turn off the 30 minute shutdown button. It will run till it gets to nearly 20 miles of range left. Walk away and lock it with the button on door handle or key fob. Had my Lightning for a month, been doing this since we picked it up at the dealer. Printed out a picture of dog with “My driver will return shortly, the AC/heater is on.”

You can use FORScan to turn that one off altogether.
