Well, no, all I was saying is that I think OP was referring to the computer module, but "everyone" is responding to the thread as if it was the physical shifter and as far as I know they're not the same / a single unit.
I’m under the same impression. The GSA (Gear Shift Assembly) is different and separate from the GSM (Gear Shift Module)

I wasn’t able to find the wiring diagrams for the Lightning but I would imagine that’s where the GSM would show up (like the below) or perhaps I’m mistaken and they’re integrated.

I had a Bronco loaner with rotary shifter and really didn’t like its shifter. Is the same device used on the ice 150s as on the Lightnings? And my Lightning is a May ‘22 build. Have the early Lightnings been having this problem?

Yes they are integrated. Its not a separate computer that interprets signals from the mechanical shifter.

My June 2022 build has not had issues.

My early 2022 doesn’t either. The 2022 and 2023 I have access to do not either.

One of them did have a it “stuck” once and wouldn’t shift to gear but that was resolved by lowering and raising the shifter again, and it only happened once.

@TaxmanHog & @mr.Magoo here is the work order. It is actually called a GSM by Ford and there is a more direct part that they call the lever which is perfectly confusing.

I also found the TSB from Ford that they referenced in the work order and it can be ready here:

My dealers exact word were that, "Ford had stopped shipping this part temporarily until they could do a quality control check on the part." I haven't been able to get any more info out of Ford or the dealer at all.

For those wondering this issue is not at all unique to BEV F150's it is also happening on ICE vehicles. Many high end ICE F150's that include the folding shifter are having similar issues only when their shifters slip back into gear and get stuck they can't power down their trucks. This is a generalization of things I've read on other forums and areas for ICE and BEV F150 owners.

Good summary. This shifter first showed up in 2021 ICE F150s. I traded in my 21 F150 for my Lightning with 50K miles and I never had an issue with the GSM. Seems like its the luck of the draw.

Thank you to everyone providing the details / facts.
Even at this age you learn something new every day !

That makes it really interesting / surprising that switching out the shifter for a rotary is plug and play since you're now (apparently) switching out one of the modules as well.

I wonder if Ford itself is using the term "module" loosely. 😆 I am not 100% certain without tearing the parts apart if there is a real control module or if it just feeds some.other controller. I agree with you 100% it is very odd, if it is all-in-one, that the rotary module could replace the lever unless they both output the same numerical codes etc to the motors or transmission (for ICE).

It is a GSM module that simply has a different shift selection mechanism than the rotary version. It just looks different but is functionally the same. That’s why people can directly swap in the rotary version. Essentially plug and play.

I've never folded mine down as I've never had a reason. Are there people who have never folded theirs down that seem to last forever? Or is this one of those parts that will just eventually fail in time.

F150 is the best selling vehicle in the country. Some tiny percentage of trucks break. Of the trucks that break a fairly large percentage of their owners go online to find answers. In other words, there's a huge selection bias towards broken trucks on the internet. There is no part on your truck that is destined to fail.

I'm not saying Ford's QC is great; it's not. But even bad QC results in very few broken trucks.

The sad part about this is that Ford knows they have either a build quality issue if the pin/wiring harness has a problem, or they have bad physical assemblies, but if you are out of warranty you are out of luck and pay out of pocket.
