I’m running 6-3 from 60@ breaker through wall to 14-50 receptacle in weatherproof enclosure outside. Will use mobile charger initially. Will go to 100@ breaker, 2 gauge wire to pro charger if it ever shows up. Not very expensive when only need 6 feet of wire.
A 6/3 cable is not legal for 48A EV charging load. 60A of conductor ampacity is required, and 6/3 NM only provides 55A ampacity. Wire-in-conduit is legal because at 75 degC column, you get 65A ampacity.

You’re correct. The 14/50 is “temporary” and dedicated to 32@ mobile charger. Wiring run will be replaced when CSP is installed because I don’t need both. I should really get a 50@ breaker but 60@ was available. It’s safe but not code. I’ve just convinced myself to go to HD and get the 50@ breaker

Then you have to de-rate the evse to 40A output.

As a UL employee I greatly appreciate the fact that consumers care enough to know the difference, most people would just take the non listed one as they don't understand the difference.
Can you help me appreciate the difference? lol idk which version I just bought but it was $399 so I'm thinking it's the non-UL version.

That's the one I'm getting installed, I have there power monitors and there app is rock solid helping me keep track of my solar production. You should consider getting the power monitors if you have solar. You will be able to charge only when solar is sending power back to your service provider if you choose to.
This is a awesome combination.
Craig, who are you going with to install yours? I just picked one up and we may qualify for a $250 rebate thru South Coast AQRB if we get it permitted.

In the most simple of terms UL certification means it passed a third party inspection. For something to be UL listed they have very strict guidelines in regards to design and the components being used. Without this inspection the parts can be sourced from anywhere with no safety certifications. In this case i would assume they two models are the same just one doesn't come with the certification, however they could be using different parts.

My installer is a licensed and self employed that was recommended from my neighbor who had a Tesla charger installed. I had him run a 60amp breaker direct to the Emporia charger and a nema 14-50 so I can plug in the Ford charger if needed.

Yep just incase the Emporia is down.

I added the 14-50 because the wife is getting a Mach-E. When I get the charger that came with my truck, I will hardwire that and put the cord back on the Emporia and use it to charge her car.

We are sharing the same 48A charger.

Wife has PHEV now but has 2023 MME ordered (priority 1) charged in the garage.
Lightning gets a charge once a week on a weekend day outside.

@Pioneer74 And @CRAIGC540,

why did y’all choose emporia? I should be picking up my demo lariat ER in 1-2 weeks and I’m shopping for an aftermarket charger since I do not plan to use backup power and 100A breaker would be a stretch on my current service and thus do not have much of a need for the FCSP and will sell it. I am having a tough time choosing the best 48A charger. Looks like juice box may include a 30% EV credit for cost of materials/install up to $1K and seems to be well recommended. I don’t have solar so the need to integrate isn’t a priority of mine. Also, y’all mentioned wiring a NEMA 14-50 in case the emporia is “down”, why would it ever be down? Just want to make sure I’m purchasing the right charger for my needs. Thanks in advance
