Powertrain Malfunction/ Reduced Power

My battery has now been out 3 times. Its a 2022. As much as I want to love this truck, its held together with hopes and prayers... and that just doesnt really cut it.

I'm holding out for a full battery replacement when they get the issues fully sorted out. Sounds like they aren't there yet since 2024s are still having issues. I'm willing to take the risk of holding until they do, or don't, decide on a full battery recall. Clearly, the failure rate on these modules is excessive so it probably behooves them to recall the the entire pack rather than picking away one module replacement at a time for each truck for 7 years or 100k miles.

I got my truck back today, 9 days after I brought it in. They actually called me a couple of days ago and said they were working on installing the new array but the tech didn't like something about one of the parts so they ordered another, hence another couple days delay. I had 10k mile service and they did updates for the front hatch control module and front parking sensors. I had to gas up the loaner they gave me before I returned it and had to roll my eyes at the $95 it cost me... but as I mentioned before, I am going to try and get this reimbursed by Ford, the service manager gave me a number to call for that.

First thing I did was go to a DCFC and make sure that worked which it did. Then I plugged it in when I got home and sure enough, works as it did before. All in all, it wasn't a very painful experience since they provided a loaner. Maybe I just have a better Dealer here?

Keep an eye on the coolant, couple reports of it going low as things settle. Also, there's a post somewhere that explains it'll take a few weeks for the BMS to fully settle in after a module replacement. Don't fret if you see your range est get a little wonky (at least more than usual).

I got my truck back today, 9 days after I brought it in.

Nice turnaround. As of yesterday, the dealer is saying I'll get it back today. Monday would be 4 weeks since I brought it in.

Keep an eye on the coolant, couple reports of it going low as things settle. Also, there's a post somewhere that explains it'll take a few weeks for the BMS to fully settle in after a module replacement. Don't fret if you see your range est get a little wonky (at least more than usual).

Second this on the coolant level. They never bleed the systems correctly (assuming they put it back together correctly). Mines down over an inch since having it back for a week for the same thing.

Wanted to provide an update. Took my truck in on the morning of 11/11 and got it back that evening. They did some updates and reset some things. Light came back on during the ride home. It had gone off the following midday but came back on yesterday afternoon and I happened to be right by the dealership so I dropped it off again. We shall see. Ford Corporate did contact me via phone concerning my case so that was nice. Hope they can figure it out!

It’s looking more and more likely that a bunch of us 2022 early adopters are gonna face this issue eventually.

It is extremely uncomfortable having this hanging over my head and not knowing when it’s going to strike.

Has anyone reported their mileage, build date, the HV battery State of Health (from the Car Scanner App reading from the OBD2 port), and charging practices, and then reported a battery cell failure?

For one data point, I am at 13K miles, build date of October 2022, and 99.5% SoH, usually charging up to 80%, but with several Ford caused 100% L2 charges, and several 85% DCFC charges, but no cell failures so far.

For anyone curious, the issue was the following:
CLICKING NOISE AND POWERTRAIN LIGHT FOUND CODE P0DE9 COOLANT DIVERTER VALVE FAULT

Ford was able to get the part in 24 hours and get things fixed and valeted the vehicle back to my house.

I received the Powertrain Malfunction/ Reduced Power notification in the app while driving last night. After parking I noticed this clicking sound. I charged fine with my L2 to 90% and when I start there is no throttling. I can reproduce the clicking sound by pulling the negative terminal on the 12V and then reconnecting. It repeats itself for a period and then eventually stops. Has any seen/heard this in relation to the Powertrain topic before? I have a 2023 XLT SR. Production was around 10-2022. Additionally, even if the charger is not in it will make the sound. The charger had hit my target charge that is why you don't see it charging at the moment.

That's great news, we've had a few reports of failed diverter valves.

Its 2024 and new Flashes are still getting the powertrain malfunction/reduced power. Did Ford underestimate how many HVB failures they would have? Do they just plan to continue on replacing modules on a case by case basis? I would love to see data from other manufacturers and compare what their HVB failures are.

I believe it has to do with battery manufacturing process.

I study the technology early on and it seems there is an expectation that a certain number of pouch cells will be faulty. Apparently they are not all identifiable at production and end up failing after the truck goes into use.

Seems like that should be getting better over time, but apparently not totally resolved.

I am expecting Ford to change the battery chemistry and production in the near future. (There are less expensive technologies emerging rapidly. )
