Haha it’s complicated. The short answer is, BOTH, once you get an update. Before that, neither.

The user friendly power up version like “3.5.3” is only shown in release notes. Release notes for the last update are shown both in the app and in the update menu of the car. But before your first update you don’t get the release notes.

In General there are several build numbers, some updates correspond to the SYNC build number changing. Others update other aspects of the car without SYNC updates.

I’m 9/19 build week and came with PAAK. I’ll have to play around more, thanks!

Haha thanks! Yeah, I mean, the Lightning has been such a mix of emotions for me as a 5-time Tesla owner since 2014. Some things are such a refreshing change, like the doors not freezing shut and the heater being powerful enough. Some things even on the software side are really nice, like the updates that add software features without requiring 30-50 minutes of downtime.

Other things are very much in the “what were they thinking” category, like the power up versions, or how hard it is to see the battery percentage in the car, or how the trip planner hides arrival battery percentage in a 3-tap menu. And of course all the app quirks, remote start vs departure time.

If this release fails on you, it might help to take a drive or plug in. An insider told me my failure message was due to low 12v battery. Plugging in likely initiated a 12v charging cycle.

The cold weather is likely not helping the 12v any more than it is the HV and range.

Same here I was accepted into the beta program this morning as well but have not seen that update as of 1pm est...have to check in the morning for any update goodies.

As I was pulling into my Dentist appointment this morning, I received the notification on the big screen that my Lightning was ready to update the software to 3.5.5. I chose to wait until after I got home. I pulled into my driveway and put the truck in park and the software notification popped up again, with a reminder that I would not be able to operate the truck while it updated. I hit the proceed button, turned off the truck and went inside. No problems and later my Ford Pass app notified me when it completed.

The nice thing about your Lightning gripes...all are fixable via software updates.

Your gripes with Tesla...not fixable with software.

Yes - they ignore or override so many settings with these updates. It is frustrating.

My truck is fully updated with all they've released PAAK and now 3.5.5, but the number of settings you have to update after each one gets a bit crazy. PS - honestly my app still showed 90% charge at home, but charged to 100% anyway. Other settings to still correct.

I lost all of my radio presets with this update. Not the end of the world but very aggravating to have to add them back in.

On start-up did it load the guest profile instead of your personalized profile?

This issue happens a lot when I precondition or remote start.

To fix it, I manually select my personal profile and the radio presets come back

Same here - presets disappeared, driver screen went to regular mode (was in calm mode), and the charge settings reset to 90%.

Turned back to 100% for home charging and 90% for DCFC.
