I have a schedule set for home in the charging setup on the truck. My utility offers reduced rates from 11PM to 5AM in the summer (Phoenix). I plugged in this evening with only 3 percent needed assuming the truck would not start charging until eleven, it started immediately. I'm charging at about 4.8Kw @ 240 volts. It should be able to do the 3 percent in 6 hrs without a problem. Why the heck is it starting to charge as soon as I plug it in. Edit, changed the Kw charge rate to what it was mistakenly hit the wrong key on my initial submission.

Because Ford sucks 🐴 🍆 at software.

Use literally any aftermarket EV charger and use it to set charge times, and the truck to set charge limits.

Check and make sure that your truck's home location is correct. I had an issue early on where my truck thought it was actually at my neighbor's address and therefor did not use and of my schedules. Cell service is poor at my house and I park my truck in garage, so I can see why it made that mistake. That said, since I gave my truck my home wifi connection info, I have not had that issues. My truck has also been updated many times, so the updates could have been what solved it.

I use a tesla wall connector at home, so I have no ability to schedule charging with the EVSE.

unfortunately, FORD engineers decided that the PRIORITY for charging is: reach the State Of Charge PERCENTAGE that the customer has set, FIRST, then use the Time to Charge, second...

meaning, that even IF you have a 11pm to 5amp 'window' to charge, and that's the ONLY time you want it to charge, it will STILL start charging sooner, or IMMEDIATELY, if it calculates that it cannot 'reach' your State of Charge PERCENTAGE you set, such as 80%. So, if you arrive home with 5%, for instance, and you immediately plug in, it may calculate that it needs that full time, until 5am the next morning, to reach your set Percentage, and will start charging right away.

That's NOT necessarily what you'd expect.

So, here's how I get 'around' this issue, and do the same with my
11pm to 7am 1.5cents p/kwh charging rate from Georgia Power:
A) Set the START time to 11pm.
B) Set the END time to 5pm(that's 5pm the next day, or 18 hours later)
C) Always wait until AFTER 5pm* each day to plug in.
D) unplug manually, at 5am, or hit the 'stop charging' button on the app, etc.

What this does is give the truck's software the ability to calculate that it has PLENTY of time, 18 hours, from 11pm to 5pm, to get the truck charged, on my 240v 30amp Ford mobile charger. While it won't necessarily STOP at 7am, I am up at that time and unplug it manually if I want it to stop then, or I can leave it plugged in and let it reach it's PERCENTAGE, if I have a big travel day, etc.

I've had no issues since I started doing this, and it doesn't matter WHICH EVSE I use, either the Ford 240v 30amp mobile charger, or my other GreenMAX 240v 30amp adjustable mobile charger, the TRUCK is deciding when to charge, not the EVSE unit.

Maybe, just maybe, @FordLightning is listening, and will revise the Charging options to include a strict 'Charge DURING these hours ONLY' option.

*the reason to wait until after 5pm each day to plug in is because the software doesn't 'know' what 5pm you are expecting it to know, so if you plug in at 4pm, it thinks that you want it to 'continue' charging until 5pm, in one hour. Strange, but unfortunately that's the way their system was designed. Maybe they'll update this to be a little more 'intuitive' and not so problematic and hard to understand.

"Stop Charging" is temporary. It will start again hours later if not unplugged.

Check, clear and reset your location for the charger.

The truck sets the charge time.

This is exactly why I'm thinking of switching my FCSP for another Emporia unit. The unreliability of the software in the truck is unbelievable.

I set the time limits with my Emporia for my wife's Mach-E and it charges when I want, at the speed I want, with a better app and data.

^^^ This

FordPAss app:
  • Plug it in when you set the location again. It's sensitive to exact location, even in the driveway, not just the street address it recognizes. (If you want to see how sensitive it is, tap the little map in the LOCATION area and walk around with your phone, it's like BlueCruise mapping accuracy, so a few feet makes a difference)
  • Try to charge very close to the same exact location to verify
  • Make sure you tick the USE PREFERRED CHARGE SETTINGS radio button in the FordPass app
  • Set the slider for the MAX CHARGE LEVEL you want
  • Make sure you review both WEEKDAYS and WEEKENDS for correct PREFERRED CHARGE TIMES
  • If you let it set your PROVIDER AND PLAN for you TOU rate, verify the times are correct
  • Make sure you hit the SAVE button at the bottom.
If it still starts early, or stops late, outside the provider and plan times, repeat above and manually set up your TOU times to start late and stop early. I caught my truck stopping the charge a few minutes late several months ago, but it seems to be behaving lately.

I know this has gotten me a couple of times, otherwise my truck has been rock solid when it comes to charging at the correct times. If you just had an update, or maybe changed some settings using forscan it can reset, so make sure to double check it

When you delete and then rebuild your profile, let the script accept the location as detected, it might show a adjacent neighbors address, not to worry, just make sure to park in the exact spot as configured. In my situation, tight fitting garage with no leeway, but the truck has determined I'm in my neighbors yard not my garage.

Another thing that triggers immediate charging in lieu of delayed is a departure time requirement, if you have one, remove it to see if that helps the situation, with only 3% topping off I wouldn't expect this problem, but who knows if it's a factor.

Part of my problem appears to be the selections available to me in the FordPass app. I do not have any selections related to charging, charge rate, location etc. I may have to uninstall and reinstall the app as well as reset my preferred charging location, which does show my neighbors address.

I give this a try along with reinstalling FordPass.

I've had issues rebuilding the profile strictly with the app.

Just do it in the truck SYNC screen.

Plug vehicle in> FordPass app>Vehicle (at bottom) >tap CHARGING >tap Preferred Times tile >you should see the location where you are plugged in

All the settings are then available particular to the charging location you are setting up after tapping the address.

The only selection I have under charging is Backup Power. That's it.
